The CIMB World MasterCard and Visa Infinite were my very first premium credit cards. At that time (more than a decade ago), it was issued under Southern Bank’s Direct Access. The reason why I signed up for these cards was simply because I wanted to shiok sendiri, hahaha. You see, at that time I was still in my mid to late 30s and gila over credit cards where I had almost all major commercial banks’ credit cards except for AmBank and Affin. So, as a young and foolish person, I just wanted to have bragging rights – not many people back then in their 30s can qualify for a Premium Credit Card with RM1xx,xxx.xx Credit Limit where the minimum annual income requirement was RM240K p.a.
When CIMB took over Southern Bank (Direct Access), they were so desperate for new members that the lower the requirements to be eligible for their World MasterCard and Visa Infinite where anyone having a credit limit of RM30K will be grated the cards!!! So, it was no longer a big deal holding the CIMB World MasterCard or Visa Infinite.
Prior to 2016, the Citibank Prestige Elite MasterCard was the Ultimate Credit Card for Bragging Rights but it was replaced by the Duralumin (alloy) OCBC Premier Voyage MasterCard. This year, there is a new Ultimate Limited Edition Credit Card to own for bragging rights. It is really exclusive where it is made of bronze and only 1000 Malaysians will be entitled to get it. Click here to read my article The Ultimate Credit Card for Bragging Rights 2018 (but you will need the password which is only granted to my FB Followers).
I hardly ever used the CIMB MasterCard or Visa Infinite because it earned me really miserable returns compared to other credit cards. But because the CIMB World MasterCard and Visa Infinite were FREE FOR LIFE without any conditions, I kept them.
In reference to the above paragraph, that is why I keep telling you guys to sign up for FREE FOR LIFE without any conditions credit card and not to cancel them. I tell you, once you retire or become unemployed like me, it is very tough to get a credit card (not impossible as I have proven to you guys over the years that I managed to get the Maybank 2 Cards Premier plus other Premium Cards after I fired my boss when I was in my early 40s and became unemployed and remained a bum since then – if you must know, i am still in my 40s).
And my perseverance (sounds nice but not exactly the appropriate word to use) has paid off because come 13 March 2018, I will own the best credit card to accumulate Enrich Miles from Dining related transactions at places where AMEX is not welcomed!!!
If you note from above, 400 Bonus Points = RM1. CIMB used to have a Redeem On The Spot program where we can use the Bonus Points to offset our bills, e.g. at KFC. But I have no idea if we are still able to redeem our Bonus Points for cash because like I said, I hardly ever use my CIMB credit cards.
Anyway, if one earns 1X Bonus Points for every RM1 spent and based on 400 Bonus Points = RM1, this works out to 0.25% cash back – freaking unbelievably low!!!
With 5X Bonus Points for every RM1 spent, the cash back works out to be 1.25%. Not too bad considering that nowadays there are very few cards that offer UNLIMITED Cash Back of more than 1%.
But 1.25% cash back is still pretty lousy if you know what I mean. By us having several cards which offer cash back from different categories, we can earn minimum 3% cash back. If you are new to my blog and you are into cash back, please click here to my Cash Back Page and take all the FREE tutorials and soon you will be able to earn meaningful pocket money from your credit cards’ transactions.
However, if you are into Airmiles, especially Enrich Miles, the CIMB Visa Infinite 5X Bonus Points for Dining is fantastic. Couple it with CIMB redemption program where we can convert 10,000 Bonus Points to 1,000 Enrich Miles, and this works out to 1 Enrich Mile for every RM2 spent!!!
If you refer to my AirMiles Page where I have listed the Best Credit Cards for Airmiles 2018, only the Maybank 2 Cards American Express Reserve gives you a better deal at 1 Enrich Mile for every RM0.954 spent locally.
So basically, the CIMB Visa Infinite is The Best Credit Card in 2018 for accumulating Enrich Miles for Dining related transactions at places where AMEX is not accepted!!!
And here is the joke, the FREE FOR LIFE CIMB Visa Infinite earns you more Enrich Miles from the same amount spent locally on Dining compared to the CIMB Enrich World MasterCard where the annual fee of RM588 will only be waived in full if the cardholder spends RM500K with it!!!
As for overseas spending, we only earn 5X Bonus Points which means we earn 1 Enrich Mile for every RM2 spent overseas. However, this is not competitive compared to the 10 cards I listed in my AirMiles Page where they earn you 1 Enrich Mile for less than RM2 spent overseas.
So in conclusion, the CIMB Visa Infinite will from now onwards be slotted together with my Maybank 2 Cards Premier in my main wallet and I must remember to use it for dining at places where AMEX is not welcomed.
CIMB Bank Spend Now Bonus Points Campaign
Until 31 May 2018, those of us who received SMS from CIMB on the above said campaign are entitled to FREE 20,000 Bonus Points with RM6000 spending. Click here for TnC
Local Spending 1X Bonus Points
If you do spend RM6K with the CIMB WMC or VI (effective 13 March 2018), you will earn 6000 Bonus Points. Add the 20,000 Bonus Points, it means you can earn 2.6K Enrich Miles with RM6K spending. This works out to 1 Enrich Mile for every RM2.31 which is not too bad and slightly better than Maybank Visa Infinite but not Maybank 2 Cards Premier AMEX Reserve.
Local Spending 5X Bonus Points for Dining with the CIMB Visa Infinite Effective 13 March 2018.
With 5X Bonus Points for dining and coupled it with the 20K BP with RM6K spending, it works out to 5,000 Enrich Miles with RM6K spending on dining. Or in other words, 1 Enrich Mile = RM1.2 spend on dining. This is really good for places that does accept the Maybank 2 Cards AMEX Reserve where we earn 1 Enrich Mile for every RM0.954 spent.
Overseas Spending 5X Bonus Points with the CIMB Visa Infinite Effective 13 March 2018.
Same as above, we will earn 1 Enrich Mile for every RM1.20 spent with the CIMB Visa Infinite effective 13 March 2018. However in this case, the Maybank Visa Infinite and AMEX Reserve is better as we earn 1 Enrich Mile for every RM0.954 spent overseas.
For those of you who are really into Enrich Miles, the best card for overseas spending is the RHB Premier Visa Infinite where we earn 1 Enrich Mile for every RM0.75 spent overseas!!! If you have RM200K to park with RHB and you want tohe RHB Premier VI, contact me as your referral.
