If you have Grab, then most probably you would have received an email stating that GrabReward is having a Super Sale starting from 22nd June 2020.
Actually, effective 22nd June 2020, Grab is revising their GrabRewards Catalogue by inflating it!!! Let me show you that are not really getting 50% discount based on today’s (13th June 2020) redemption rate.
As of current date, i.e. 13th June 2020, you can redeem RM5 GrabFood Voucher with 600 Grab Points.
Grab is telling you that they are offering 50% Sale from 22 June to 30th June:
In respect to the above and compared to today, below is what you are really getting:
22 June to 30th June: you can redeem RM5 GrabFood or GrabMart or GrabRide or GrabExpress Voucher with 400 Points. So in other words, compared to today, you won’t be getting 50% discount but 33.33%.
1st July to 14th July: you can redeem RM5 GrabFood or GrabMart or GrabRide or GrabExpress Voucher with 600 Points. So in other words, compared to today, you are getting 0% discount!!!
15th July Onward: in order to redeem RM5 GrabFood or GrabMart or GrabRide or GrabExpress Voucher, you will need 800 GrabRewards Points. So in other words, compared to today, you need 33.33% more points!!!
Therefore, if you are into GrabFood or GrabMart or GrabRide or GrabExpress Vouchers, the best time to redeem is between 22nd June and 30th June, inclusive of both dates.
What If You Are Not Into GrabFood or GrabMart or GrabRide or GrabExpress Vouchers?
Below is what Grab stated in their email:
Key Words stated above are – New GrabRewards Catalogue.
Well, all of us know that every time our credit cards come out with a new revised reward catalogue, it means that we will need more points to redeem for something!!! NEW is not good for us who are into Reward Points, hahaha.
As of today, 13th June 2020, I can redeem a Caring RM10 voucher with 600 Points.
And I can also redeem using 650 GrabRewards Points to offset RM5 from my Air Selangor bill.
Grab only stated that we get discount for GrabRide, GrabFood, GrabExpress and GrabMart vouchers between 22nd June to 30th June; BUT it does not in anywhere stated that we will be getting discount for other types of redemption. Therefore, come 22nd July 2020, I have no idea if I will be required to use more GrabRewards Points compared to today in order to get the same RM5 off my Air Selangor bill or the RM10 Caring Voucher. What you think?
Are GrabRewards Points Any Good?
Well, for air miles, GrabPay is fantastic compared to Boost and Tng eWallet.
Oh yes, please note, with GrabPay, you do not earn any Grab Points when you pay BILLS, e.g. Air Selangor bill.
Anyway, for those of you who are into GrabRide and GrabFood vouchers, let’s compare present and future GrabReward Points returns:
Currently you need 600 GrabRewards Points to redeem RM5 Grab Voucher: in other words, you need to spend RM200 to earn RM5 which works out to 2.5% cash back (not including any cash back you can also earn from your credit card). 2.5% Cash Back is VERY GOOD compared to unless Boost and TnG eWallet.
From 15th July Onward: you need 800 GrabRewards Points to redeem RM5 Grab Voucher: in other words, you need to spend RM266 to earn RM5 which works out to 1.879% cash back (not including any cash back you can also earn from your credit card). Well, 1.8% Cash Back is still pretty good compared to unless Boost and TnG eWallet.
Boost Coins Versus GrabPay Grab Rewards
Why I say Boost is useless – the Boost Coins we earn are random. Once you hit the maximum Boost Coins redemption for Cash, you are stuck will useless Boost Coins where we can only redeem for stuff that we may not need.
TnG eWallet Versus GrabPay Grab Rewards
TnG eWallet worst still – we do not get guaranteed cash back but instead they give us random promos/discounts. For example, you may get discount for Tealive but we all know that Bubble Tea which is basically just a sugar loaded damn unhealthy drink.
If you ask me, I will say the best eWallet in Malaysia is GrabPay. BUT what all of us want from our eWallets are real cash back not promos enticing us to spend more!!! So the Code Words to all eWallets players in Malaysia are: I Want Real Cash Back
