Dear Valued Customers,

In our efforts to provide you with better online banking security, Secure2u will be used as the preferred authorisation method on Maybank2u, based on the transaction value and effective dates below:

Transactions ValueEffective Date*
Transactions of RM5,000 and above16 Feb 2021
Transactions of RM4,000 and above24 Feb 2021
Transactions of RM3,000 and above8 Mar 2021

*SMS TAC will not be provided after each effective date.

Starting from 8 March 2021, if you have registered for this service, Secure2u will be the default method to approve ALL transactions rather than TAC. Activate Secure2u via the Maybank2u app now to enjoy a safer and easier way to authorise your Maybank2u transactions.

In respect to the above announcements, I have no issue with Secure2U if it is purely about TAC/OTP that is to be sent to us; BUT if you are a follower of mine, you will know that last year I stupidly agreed to Secure2U and then I no longer received any SMS Alerts from Maybank when I made transactions with my credit cards! Instead the transactions will ne notified via Secure2U.

I called Maybank CS to complain that I want the SMS Alert because what if I am overseas and I don’t have data and someone fraudulently used my credit cards? The CS said she can’t do anything!!!

But then I changed phone and magically I started to receive the SMS Alerts again for my credit cards transactions 🙂 So I did not touch the Secure2U App and have been receiving SMS Alerts for all my credit card transitions and OTP too.

However, looks like I need to reactivate my Secure2U come 15th March 2020…. let’s see what happens…..

The above article at The Star covers many thing but what I want to highlight is:

According to its website, Secure2u “pairs your device with your Maybank2u User ID”, providing “an extra level of security as all transactions initiated can only be authorised on your registered device”.

What the heck does the above means? The OTP is also only paired to my mobile number.

As long as I still receive SMS Alerts for my credit card transactions, I have no issues with Secure2U for online transactions.
