Hack To Fly Emirates Business Class For Less Compared to Classic Rewards

Option 1 – Upgrade Using Skywards Or Pay With Cash at Check-In or At Dubai Emirates Counter When Transiting

The first option is you already have an Economy Class ticket, example, you are on a tour where you opted for Economy Class because you are like me damn kedekut as if we can take our money to the grave, hahaha.

So when you are at the Emirates Check-In Counter, you can ask if there are seats to upgrade either with (1) Skywards Miles or (2) you pay for the upgrade.

However, nowadays the flights from KL to Dubai is usually fully booked including Biz Class.

Here is my case:

I was on tour to South America, there was no seat to upgrade from KUL to DBX, the moment I arrived at Dubai, I went straight to the Emirates Counter just before Security Check (all transit passengers need to go through security at Dubai).

So I asked the girl if there is a seat to upgrade my Economy Class ticket to Biz Class Dubai to Rio de Janeiro and was told there was for 148K Skywards Miles. The flight from Dubai to Rio De Janeiro is 13 hours and therefore flying on Biz Class is definitely more comfortable. Then for my wife’s case, I could also upgrade her Economy Class ticket to Biz Class for USD1,500 which I then proceeded to pay for it with my credit card and earn more air miles, haha.

Then from my trip Buenos Aires to Dubai, when checking in at the counter, I asked if there are seats to upgrade by paying and the counter girl said No! However, to share with you, one of My Air Miles Disciple also went to South America Tour recently, she did managed to upgrade her Economy Class ticket to Biz Class from Buenos Aires to Dubai using her Skywards Miles while checking in (no seat to upgrade by paying!).
