INTRODUCTION
Previously in my article titled My New Toy – Acer Nitro 5 Ryzen 7 1TB SSD RTX3060 (click here to read it), I mentioned (and showed you) that I was surprised to note that RM80.65 worth of Lazada Coins were used to offset the price of my new notebook at Check Out.
The Lazada Coins were mainly collected from Daily Check-In and playing games at Lazada.
Anyway, today is 7.7 and both Lazada and Shopee have promotions. My wife wanted to get some stuff so I told her to check both Lazada and Shopee to see which of the platforms have lower price. However at Lazada Check Out we noted there were no mentioned of coins to offset the payment.
So I asked a shopping queen how I can use the Lazada Coins and she taught me two methods which I will present to you now.
Using Lazada Coins Method No.1
Step 1 – at Lazada Home tap on Profile at the bottom left Menu
Step 2 – Tap at Use Coins as shown below.
As shown, I have 4,283 Lazada Coins and the 1Kg FREE Rice has been delivered to me (after tapping the damn phone for many days or maybe even months, haha).
Step 3 – You can then browse by scrolling down or SEARCH at the upper right.
Please note that the 4,283 Lazada Coins can be converted to RM42.83.
Using Lazada Coins Method No.2
Step 1 – When searching for a product, look out for the word COINS.
Step 2 – Tap on the product to see more details where you will also see the maximum coins allowed to be used.
Step 3 – At Check Out you will see that the final amount has deducted the coins. Since I currently only have 4,283 Lazada Coins, you will see that the amount deducted was RM42.83 and not the maximum RM61.98 stated above.
Also you will note that in addition to the Store Discount of RM60, there is also another Lazada Voucher which offered 14% discount on 7.7 capped at RM65.
So the Final Price of the notebook selected in the example above is RM2,931.17.
Now from the above, it is stated (1) Product Price RM3,099 and (2) Maximum Coins that can be used to offset RM61.98 – this works out to 2%.
Shopee Coins
I am now going to show the same product at Shopee for comparison.
Below is an image of the same product from the same store as per the Lazada example above. I can get a RM30 voucher from Shopee to offset the price.
As you can observe from above, I cannot use Shopee Coins with this product and the final price is RM3,088.54 which is more than at Lazda where the Final Price with me using my coins ended up with RM2,931.17 or RM157.37 cheaper if I were to buy from Lazada.
CONCLUSION
Above examples is to show you how we can determine if a seller accepts Lazada Coins or Shopee Coins.
Now, in no way I am saying that a seller that allows us to use Shopee Coins or Lazada Coins is cheaper than one that does now allow us to use coins to offset the price.
Always compare between sellers AND also Lazada versus Shopee.
It also depends on what cash vouchers you can get from Shopee or Lazada to offset the final price.
Once again, whatever it is, do not assume anything but always check both Lazada and Shopee to see which platform offers you the best price.
Both Lazada and Shopee allow us to use the Maybank 2 Cards Gold/Platinum AMEX to earn 5% cash back on weekends to purchase products. HOWEVER, only Lazada allows us to use the Maybank 2 Cards Gold/Platinum Amex to pay bills (utilities).
Having said the above, the best credit card for online transaction is now the Maybank Islamic Ikhwan AMEX Platinum-i where we can get 8% cash back everyday.

Another thing, if you are like me where I do not use Lazada Wallet, you should disable Auto Top Up to Lazada Wallet. This is because Lazada will select Lazada Wallet as Default Payment. Always remember to check you are using the right Credit Card when making payment.
And if really necessary, use a non-Maybank credit card to top up your Lazada Wallet just in case you accidentally pay with Lazada Wallet and they auto top up.
For me, mainly I use Shopee Coins to pay bills where we can use the coins to offset the bill by 25%. Bros & Sis, 25% off is better than any cash back credit card!
And the new game Shopee Fruity – if you can merge the fruits to become a Durian, then you will earn more Shopee Coins, hahaha.
