Remy Martin Limited Edition 2024 Year Of The Dragon XO and 300th Anniversary VSOP

Those of you who are my long time die hard followers know that I collect Cognac and Whiskies and I even have a page called GenX Spirits where I post my collection (click here to see photos of my collection sometime back ago). Since then I have added more to my collection, e.g. Macallan Night On Earth, Macallan Classic Cut, Glenmorangie Signet and etc.

However post covid, cognac and whiskies prices have sky-rocketed to ridiculous levels, not only Japanese whiskies prices but also Cognacs especially XOs and Scotch Whiskies.

Yeah, many people like me do collect Cognacs or Whiskies as a form of investment….. well so I thought until my wife asked me – you have liquor license to sell you collection? hahahaha.

And I keep telling myself I must stop buying cognacs and whiskies as most probably I cannot finish all the bottles in my current collection in this lifetime BUT I keep buying new spirits, not necessary as an investment but either to enjoy the drinks or to experience new ones. Yes life is about experience and tasting different spirits is a blessing.

Anyway, few month ago I saw the Limited Edition Remy Martin Year of The Dragon at KrisShop but when I wanted to buy I could only use my KrisFlyer Miles to purchase it! WTF! I do not have that many KrisFlyer Miles to burn nowadays and therefore I had to take a miss.

However, recently I was browsing KrisShop again and this time I could purchase the Remy Martin Year Of The Dragon XO with CASH! I still had to use 1000 KrisFlyer Miles but heck it is better than using close to 30K KrisFlyer Miles.

Below is a screenshot from KrisShop showing that we can purchase the Remy Martin Year of Dragon XO with 29K KrisFlyer Miles.

29K KrisFlyer Miles – that is close to half the KrisFlyer Miles required to redeem a one-way Biz Class ticket KL to Brisbane/Sydney/Melbourne worth more than RM3K. Therefore it makes more sense for me to purchase spirits qt KrisShop with CASH instead of burning my KrisFlyer Miles.

Having said the above, during the covid-era when we could not fly here and there, many of My Air Miles Disciples and I did burn one KrisFlyer Miles on liquor at KrisShop and one of my disciple actually burned his KrisFlyer Miles on a Hibiki 21 Years Old! But that’s history, today it is harder for My Air Miles Disciples and I to accumulate KrisFlyer Miles from thin air unlike pre-covid.

Anyway, below are some of the photos of my Limited Edition Remy Martin Year Of The Dragon XO which I purchased a few bottles from KrisSjop recently:

There is actually another exterior box to protect the actual box:

The Remy Martin XO Box taken out from the Exterior Box:

Look closely at the bottle, it has 2 dragons around the center logo!

And it is really a beautiful display item with the box opened:

And here is the joke, the Limited Edition Remy Martin Year of Dragon XO 700ml with the dragons on the bottle was selling cheaper than the normal Remy Martin XO 700ml at KrisShop…. go figure.

Then in early November, I was browsing the internet in Melbourne and came across the Limited Edition Remy Martin 300th Anniversary VSOP at an Online Store located in Sydney. So I ordered 2 bottles, one to try and one to keep. Well, yesterday I opened one of the Limited Edition Remy Martin 300th Anniversary VSOP to try….. and it was not memorable, i.e, i.e. nothing great or special, hahaha.

After I bought the Limited Edition 300th Anniversary, I asked my uncle of the has it and he said no, therefore I am giving a bottle to him…. which means I would have no unopened bottle in my collection. Most probably I will order another 2 Limited Edition Remy Martin 300th Anniversary VSOP as once the stock habis it will be gone forever.

In respect to the 300th Anniversary Remy Martin VSOP, I tell you, the best cognac I every experienced was the 300th Anniversary Martell Cordon Bleu (which is shown at my GenX Spirits Page where I still have a few unopened bottles). And I have learned that if you enjoy a particular drink, you must buy many bottles to stock up because once the limited edition is sold out it will be very hard to get a hold on it unless you are willing to pay much much more from second hand market.

And as I mentioned at the start of this article, prices of spirits keep inflating and some are at ridiculous prices….. so if you like a particular drink stock up. Nowadays Hennessy XO & Martell XO 700ml is being sold close to RM1K or even more. The good news (maybe not necessary) is that Hennessy, Remy Martin and Martell 700ml VSOP are still very reasonable at around RM350 BUT the taste is completely different from the VSOP 10 or 20 years back!

Tip – as long as a cognac or whisky is not opened , it will remain drinkable. However, if you have opened a bottle, finish it up as soon as possible….. the damn drink will spoil as it will react with the air inside the bottle, therefore the less liquor you have in the bottle, the faster the liquor gets spoil and becomes undrinkable (as there is more air in the bottle to react with the liquor).

So if you ever open a bottle of XO or premium whisky, invite me to enjoy the drinks with you before they become undrinkable, hahaha.
