The Most Elegant Lady Rolex That Can Be Worn Daily For Any Activity Part 2 – Rolex DateJust 31mm Pink Dial Oystersteel, White Gold Bezel And Jubilee Bracelet

My last Rolex watch was the GMT Master II Pepsi Ref: 126710BLRO back in 2018. Times flies. After I bought the Pepsi I was into Casio Solar Powered G-Shock with Bluetooth haha. I tell you, G-Shock with Bluetooth makes it damn easy to set alarm and time (automatically the watch will adjust to the local time anywhere on earth the moment I connect it to my smartphone) and best of all there are 2 dials on the watch which one of them can be set to Malaysia time. Casio G-Shock is way cooler than Rolex, hahaha.

Also back in 2020, I published an article titled The Most Elegant Lady Rolex That Can Be Worn Daily For Any Activity – Rolex DateJust 31mm Stainless Steel Blue (click here to read it).

Back in March 2020, the 31mm Datejust with White Gold Bezel, Jubilee Bracelet and Blue Dial was selling for RM31K. Today the same watch is selling for RM37,650.00 (at Official Rolex Boutique).

The Rolex Datejust 31mm Stainless Steel with White Gold Bezel is still pretty hard to get at Rolex Boutiques. You may be able to get 28mm Datejust or sometimes even 31mm Datejust with diamonds or smooth bezel BUT to get a 31mm Datejust Fluted Bezel without diamonds is tough. So much so, the price of the 31mm Datejust with Fluted White Gold Bezel and Jubilee Bracelet featured in PINK ROMAN DIAL WITHOUT DIAMONDS in the second-hand market is damn ridiculous just like Rolex sports models.

So if you google, you will notice that the 31mm Datejust Pink Dial cost more than the Blue Dial. Also, generally, Jubilee Bracelet and Roman Dial would fetch a higher resale value.

As usual, the half gold (aka Yellow Rolesor) is being sold at a higher price at Rolex Boutique but in the second hand market it would most probably be less than pure Stainless Steel Bracelet. And I think the reason is because gold is softer than stainless steel and therefore the scratches would be more obvious.

But I can tell you that you should never purchase a Smooth Bezel Rolex watch as it would be covered in scratches in no time if you are like me! Few years ago I gave my Rolex Air King (which was my favorite Rolex watch as I did not need to adjust the date and has a smooth bezel) to my eldest son as he is more careful than me.

The Rolex 31mm Datejust with SMOOTH bezel is cheaper (refer image below) BUT listen to me ladies, only get the (1) Fluted White Gold Bezel and (2) Jubilee Bracelet and your Rolex watch will look like new forever.

My wife’s older Rolex 31mm Datejust Fluted Bezel Jubilee Bracelet 178274 Black Roman Dial which I bought for about RM25K is being sold for RM10K or more second hand.

Well, this week I was blessed again to get a new Rolex 31mm Datejust Fluted Bezel and Jubilee Bracelet featured in Pink Roman Dial at retail price (all my Rolex watches are bought at Official Retail Price as it does not make sense for me to pay more to get a second hand watch – there is no such thing as brand new if the Rolex watch is sold by a third party who is not an Authorised Rolex Retailer).

Actually I ordered the Rolex 31mm Datejust in Pink about 2 years ago (so called Expression of Interest) and never expected the Rolex Retailer to call and inform me that the watch is ready for collection!

So of course I rushed to the Rolex Boutique to collect the watch.

The Rolex 31mm Datejust in Pink Dial that I just collected is for my youngest daughter as I have bought for both my sons each the Rolex GMT Master II (click here to see the Rolex GMTs) and my older daughter was also given a Rolex (pink dial too) many years ago.

If you are a long time follower of mine, you would understand why I buy my children Rolex watches or for the girls jewellery too (Tiffany & Co and Van Cleef & Arpels)….. so that they say “thank you” to me while I am still alive instead of them inheriting my assets and think that it is their god damn right and spend it away without being grateful to me, hahaha.

Another thing is people always ask me if a certain Rolex model is worth it? My reply is – if you like the watch buy it to shiok sendiri, haha.

As I mentioned in one of my articles on Rolex (click here to read it) not all Rolex watches appreciate in price. Rolex sports model in stainless steel generally will see an appreciation in price but not the Rolex Rolesor (half gold).

Below are examples of my Rolex stainless steel prices where I bought the GMTs as follows:

  • My first Pepsi in 1988 for RM10K – now RM40K and above;
  • Batman for my eldest son for about RM28K – now RM60K and above;
  • My Air King for about RM25K – now about RM30K (not much diff); and
  • My Pepsi is 2018 for about RM38K – now more than RM80K.

Like I mentioned earlier, the Rolex Air King 116900 was my favorite Rolex watch but as you can see the price did not appreciate much (after considering inflation maybe nothing).

My second son’s Rolex GMT Master II Rolesor when I bought it was retailing at about RM50K but my Rolex Authorised Dealer even gave me a discount! Today that watch price has not appreciated much (nothing in terms of percentage compared to the stainless steel GMTs shown above)! However, this second son of mine wanted a “gold” Rolex and that’s why I got him the Rolesor instead of a Stainless Steel model.

However, I will never sell my Rolex watches, it is like where one is giving his good luck away; likewise, if you buy a second hand watch you may be inheriting someone’s bad luck! Once again there is no such thing as brand new if you are buying from a third party who is not an Authorised Rolex Dealer.

So if you are buying solely for the purpose of hoping that your Rolex watch will appreciate in price, do some homework before you purchase a Rolex watch offered to you as not all Rolex watches price increase with time.

Seriously, in 20 or 30 years time, there will be newer Rolex models and the current models will be obsolete and out of fashion! I tell you, none of my children want my Rolex GMT Master I Pepsi 16700 (even thought the resale value is pretty good) because they will never wear it as it now out of fashion! Hahaha.

Yes, when you buy a Rolex or whatever watch, make sure you wear it and experience feeling shiok sendiri…… I can never understand those who buy Rolex watches and put in the safe and die without wearing it!

Last but not least, if you are in Geneva, do visit Rolex’s Rolex Boutique operated by Rolex itself and it is the only one in the entire world. And you never know, you may be offered a Rolex watch while you are there. When I visited it in April 2023, they actually offered me a 31mm Datejust but I did not buy it because it was not a fluted bezel but smooth.
