Malaysia Airlines August/September 2023 – Do You Feel Stupid To Have Converted Your Credit Cards’ Reward Points to Enrich Points?

In July 2023, Malaysia Airlines had a promotion where they offered 10% Bonus Enrich Points when we redeem our Credit Cards’ Reward Points for Enrich Points. To entice us, they even offered Elite Points.

Enrich Saver Tickets

For a few years I have been telling everyone who read my blog that Enrich Miles are useless and that we should redeem our Credit Cards’ Reward Points for KrisFlyer Miles. Why? Because we can fly First Class or Suite Class to London with less KrisFlyer Miles compared to Malaysia Airlines Enrich Miles on Business Class!!!

And most of my die hard long time (some people in the internet have used this exact said term I created as if to impersonate me – so don’t be fooled) followers would hold the Maybank 2 Cards Premier where the conversion rate of Treats Points to Enrich or KrisFlyer or Asia Miles are the same! Therefore only a fool will redeem Enrich Miles with their Treat Points.

However, not too long ago Malaysia Airlines introduced Enrich Base tickets and subsequently revised it to be called Enrich Saver tickets. With Enrich Base/Saver, we then actually need less Enrich Points (previously Miles) to redeem a Business Class Ticket compared to KrisFlyer or even Asia Miles!!! This was a game changer.

So I believe many who fly to London or Melbourne or Sydney would have converted their credit card rewards points to Enrich Points in February and July 2023 when Malaysia Airlines offered Bonus Points…… and I was one of them (I thought I was smart in July 2023 where I converted a substantial amount of my CIMB Bonus Points, earned from my CIMB Travel World Elite, to Enrich Points, haha)

However, suddenly in Mid-August, Enrich Saver tickets were not available despite it being shown at the top 7 day bar! See example below for Melbourne where it is shown that we can redeem a Biz Class ticket o Melbourne for 53,500 Enrich Points which is pure bull shit because in actual fact we need minimum 226,500 Enrich Points!!!

As for KL to London, we need 286,500 Enrich Points!!!

Malaysia Airlines management must be crazy where we need 226.5K and 296.5K Enrich Points for a Business Class ticket to Melbourne and London respectively.

If you were to convert your Maybank 2 Cards Premier Treats Points to KrisFlyer Miles, you will need half the miles required for a Business Class ticket compared to Malaysia Airlines Enrich Points to Melbourne or London today (15th Sep 2023). In actual fact, if you were to redeem TODAY (15th Sep 2023), you can fly First Class with Singapore Airlines to London or Melbourne with less KrisFlyer Miles compared to Malaysia Airlines Enrich Points for a non Enrich Saver Biz Class ticket!!!

So you tell me, would you rather fly First Class with Singapore Airlines (which was voted the Best Airline in The World) or a non Enrich Saver Biz Class with Malaysia Airlines?

Below is the announcement at Malaysia Airlines website:

Hopefully Malaysia Airlines will reinstate the Enrich Saver tickets soon. At least the announcement above did not state that the Enrich Saver ticket option have been terminated and gives us some hope to proof that we did the smart thing to convert our credit cards’ points to Enrich Points to book Enrich Saver tickets. HOWEVER, if Malaysia Airlines does not bring back the Enrich Saver option, then we only have ourselves to be blamed for being greedy for the 10% Bonus Enrich Points and not opted for KrisFlyer miles, hahahaha.
