This article has 2 parts, the first part is how my youngest daughter managed to secure Qantas Platinum Status, i.e. One World Emerald whereas I am at the lowest tier for all my Frequent Flyer Programs (Enrich, KrisFlyer, Emirates, Qantas, Miles & More and etc) despite flying First Class and Business Class.
The second part is like an update on my Children Education Path Series which only die hard followers and parents will be interested.
Part I – How My Youngest Daughter Achieved Qantas Platinum Status
My youngest daughter works in Australia and as such she is earning big bucks compared to those who are in their early twenties in Malaysia. And because she is the daughter of Malaysia Credit Card Guru, yours truly lah GenX GenY GenZ, upon her graduation from the No.1 Ranked University in Australia, she was already earning 6 figures in AUD at the age of 21 years old! This allowed her to apply for any credit card in Australia and thus she started collecting Qantas Points with different credit cards.
Last year she used her Qantas Points to redeem a First Class ticket with Emirates Melbourne to Dubai to Nairobi, Kenya and then Biz Class to London with BA and then Biz Class to New York with BA. She then ran out of Qantas Points to redeem more tickets, so she paid for a Biz Class ticket LA to Melbourne!
Before her mid-twenties, my daughter have already flown First Class with Emirates and traveled round the world! As for Biz Class she had even experienced Malaysia Airlines A380 to/from Europe years ago using my Air Miles before she graduated. She is truly blessed.
But because she bought the Biz Class ticket LA to Melbourne, she was upgraded to Qantas Silver.
Then early this year, last minute she decided to return to Malaysia for Chinese New Year and finally she opted with JetStar Business Class Return Melbourne/KL which allowed her enough points to be upgraded to Qantas Gold.
So with the above mentioned JetStar Biz Class, my youngest daughter was upgraded to Gold Status.
Then last month April, she had a week off from work because of Easter Break and one thing lead to another she decided to go to Chile! Once again she bought the return flight on Biz Class Melbourne to Santiago, Chile. And I was surprised that the Return Biz Class cost AUD4K+ (or one way cost about AUD2K+) which to me is freaking cheap as the journey is about 13 hours!
While she was in Chile she went hiking and visited Patagonia (Chile side) and saw the Blue Glacier. However on the Chile side, we cannot hike the Glacier unlike in the Argentina side.
Below are photos of the Glacier from Chile site where they view it from a boat.
Like I mentioned, in the Argentina side, we can actually hike on the glacier and it was one of the best experience in my life and I strongly recommend it.

So with the Biz Class Return Melbourne/Santiago, my daughter earned enough Status Credits (Elite Miles) to be upgraded to Qantas Platinum, which means she now has One World Emerald Status and therefore can enter any One World airline’s First Class Lounge!
Below are the benefits of One World Emerald status copied from One World website:
One World Emerald Status Benefits
- Access to First and Business Class lounges
- Access to First Class priority check-in
- ‘Fast Track’ or ‘Priority Lane’ access at select airports worldwide
- Priority baggage handling**
- When you fly on oneworld member airlines, you can check-in an extra baggage for free, in addition to your ticketed baggage allowance.***
- Priority boarding
- Access to preferred or pre-reserved seating*
- Priority on waitlists and when on standby*
So besides able to enter First Class lounge despite flying Economy, the other benefit is one can check in extra baggage for FREE. Actually Gold/Sapphite members also can check in extra baggage for FREE.
However the status is only good for 1 year! So if my daughter does not fly with paid in full tickets, she will be downgraded in a year time, haha. I told her must fly with Malaysia Airlines back to KL and can enter the First Class/Business Suite Lounge at MAS Golden Lounge KLIA, haha. I also told her the First Class Lounge in Melbourne also serve pretty good food and must try.
