How To Get Cheaper Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways and Vietnam Airlines Flight Tickets With Agoda or Trip.com

Introduction

Recently I had lunch with my brother in-law and he told me that he can get a cheaper Malaysia Airlines ticket KL to Bangkok compared to booking with Malaysia Airlines using Agoda.com. And the best part of all, the Malaysia Airlines ticket booked via Agoda is even cheaper than flying with AirAsia which is a Budget Airline. Of course, if we can get a cheaper Malaysia Airlines ticket, why the heck would anyone want to fly with AirAsia where we also need to pay additional fees for check-in luggage.

My brother in-law was not sure if the deal at Agoda was real but booked it anyway and once he got the Booking Reference Number, he could enter Malaysia Airlines’ Manage Booking, which means the Malaysia Airlines ticket purchased via Agoda was a good to go.

Yes, Agoda is not only good for booking hotel rooms but we should also check flight ticket prices!!!

Comparison Between Agoda versus Trip.com versus AirAsia Move

In addition to Agoda, for this article, I have also chosen to compare Flight Tickets using Trip.com and AirAsia Move. Of course there are many 3rd parties providing similar services but I am only familiar with these 3 companies.

For the purpose of this article, I have decided to check the price of Malaysia Airlines ticket KL to Shanghai One-way on Economy Class on 1st April 2026.

Step 1 – Determine the price of KL to Shanghai Economy Ticket Price at Malaysia Airlines website.

So first I will check the price of the flight ticket at Malaysia Airlines website so we can compare later with Agoda and Trip.com

In respect to the above search at Malaysia Airlines website, an Economy one-way ticket KL to Shanghai was priced at RM1,243.00 on 1st April 2026 ( the search was performed on 2nd June 2025).

Step 2 – Price of Malaysia One-Way Economy Ticket KL to Shanghai with Agoda

From the Agoda search shown above, an Economy One-way ticket KL to Shanghai with Malaysia Airlines cost RM1,140 which is cheaper than booking the same ticket at Malaysia Airlines website!

Also take note of AirAsia ticket and Thai Airways ticket KL to Shanghai priced at RM758 and RM907 respectively.

Step 2 – Price of Malaysia One-Way Economy Ticket KL to Shanghai with Trip.com

Well, Trip.com’s Malaysia Airlines One-way Economy KL to Shanghai was priced exactly the same as Malaysia Airlines’ website at RM1,243.00.

And both AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines ticket prices for this example at Trip.com are higher than Agoda.com BUT you should always compare.

Step 4 – Price of Malaysia One-Way Economy Ticket KL to Shanghai with AirAsia Move

A one-way AirAsia ticket at Move is RM809 which is cheaper than Trip.com RM817 BUT Agoda price of RM758 is even cheaper than AirAsia Move!!!

However, note the Thai Airways price compared to Agoda. The price at Move is lower but you are also to note the flight time is different.

But interestingly, AirAsia Move quoted Vietnam Airlines Economy One-way KL to Shanghai for only RM475!

Step 5 – Price of One-Way KL to Shanghai at Vietnam Airlines website

so, I went to Vietnam Airlines website to see the price to compare with AirAsia Move:

Well, the price of the same ticket at Vietnam Airlines was higher than the price quoted at AirAsia Move. However please note that you will need to transit 11hours at Saigon.

CONCLUSION

If you are purchasing a flight ticket, I guess there is no harm that you go compare the flight tickets as Agoda or Trip or Move or other 3rd parties website to compare the price you can get directly with the airline’s website. You never know, you may get a steal where you can save lots of money and use a small part of the savings to buy me coffee, haha.

Another way to check flights prices is is to use Google. So at the search bar I keyed in Ticket Price KUL to PVG (Shanghai) on 1st April 2026 and below is the result:

But since I am comparing prices for One-Way, I will need to select One Way:

And with me clicking on Show Flights, below is what I got:

So you can use Google to check quickly for ticket prices with various airlines.

Please also note that for Commercial Airlines (i.e. Malaysia Airlines, Thai Airways and Singapore Airlines), a One-Way ticket will generally cost more compared to a Return Ticket. For Singapore Airlines, a One-way Ticket can cost about the same as a Return ticket!!!

Only AirAsia prices are fixed regardless if you book one-way or return. What you can do is – if you can get a cheaper one-way ticket with a commercial airline compared to Air Asia, book it. Then you can always book a one-way ticket back with AirAsia, hahaha. Example, if you can get a cheaper Malaysia Airlines ticket from Agoda KL to Bangkok, book it. Then for the flight Bangkok to KL you can always book AirAsia, get it?
