GenX’s Live Travel Report With AirAsia Premium Flatbed on Ex-Philippine Airlines A330-300 KL to Melbourne Plus FREE Access to Plaza Premium Lounge KLIA2

Introduction

Recently I told all of you that we can get freaking cheap tickets KL to/from Melbourne or Sydney where an Economy One-Way Ticket only cost RM400+. No joke, it is real.

Click here to read my article titled Use Your Air Miles For First Class Because You Can Afford To Experience Business Class Flat Bed

In the above said article I showed you that you can get an Economy Ticket KL to Melbourne for only RM439!!!

And because of the cheap Economy Class tickets, I also checked and was surprised that we can also get Premium Flatbed for less than RM2.5K KL to/from Melbourne/Sydney. Therefore, I booked Premium Flatbed tickets for my wife and I, where it cost only RM2,399 per pax one-way KL to Melbourne.

So Bros & Sis, if you are flying to/from Melbourne, Sydney or Seoul, check out AirAsia Premium Flatbed prices and you may be pleasantly surprise how cheap are the tickets, Economy can be even at ridiculous price of RM439 KL to Melbourne. Therefore you can save your KrisFlyer Miles for First Class tickets instead of burning them on Business Class tickets!

Anyway, the moment we reached the Departure Hall at KLIA2, we headed to Counter W2 for Premium Flatbed Check-In as we had check in luggage where the girl will print the luggage tag for FREE.

However if you are flying to Singapore or China on Economy class for example, you are to print your own check in luggage tag at the kiosk. You can go to the counter if you are flying Economy but they will impose a fee of RM30 for Counter Assistance!

FYI, all passengers to Australia need to go to a counter to verify our documents, they will check to see if we have a valid Visa to enter Australia.

FREE Access To Plaza Premium Lounge

AirAisa no longer operates their own lounge as I shared in one of my article pre-covid. Today, Premium Flatbed passengers get to enter for FREE to the Plaza Premium Lounge opposite Aerotel at Mezzanine Floor.

I had the Ipoh Hor Fun, Ipoh Chee Cheong Fun and Yu Char Kueh with Coffee. Yes you must try Yu Char Kueh with coffee and BKT of course if you have not. My wife on the other hand had the laksa and nasi lemak.

AirAsia Premium Flatbed Seat Review

Well I was pleasantly surprised to see the seat was 1-2-1 and not the same as the previous Flatbed 2-2-2 I have tried. This time the aircraft was the Ex-Philippine Airlines A330-300, therefore it is a Business Class seat. FYI, the previous AirAsia Flatbed 2-2-2 seat I flew on was not really a flatbed as it does not go down completely flat but kind of slanted.

The seat looks great and I was seated at the bulk head seat 1A and had lots of leg room.

We can store our smartphones or bottle water on the side tray

Well, the seat 1A looks great and I had ample leg room as I mentioned above BUT THAT IS ABOUT IT!!! Because my seat, the cushion/padding was almost non-existence! When I have the pillow at the back in reclined position, it was fine BUT the moment I set it to flatbed, it was as if I was sleeping on a block on stone/on the floor!

The monitor screen and the controller don’t work but for show only!!! However, it does makes it feel as if you are in a real Business Class seat….. good for photos, hahahaha.

The Monitor is a Fake as it does not work

The Controller is also for show only and does not work

Middle Row

The Middle Row behind the Bulk Head Seats also looks like typical Business Class seats where you have a “small” hole to insert your feet while sleeping.

As for food, we get a meal “FREE” with Premium Flatbed, so I ordered the Nasi Lemak.

Casio Edifice Solar Bluetooth Backlit Watch

This time around I wore my Casio Edifice which was my first Bluetooth watch which came in handy when the lights on the plane were switched off.

I bought the Casio Edifice at Narita Airport as a souvenir for my Japan Stopover Trip in 2019. Since it is a Solar watch, I have never changed battery and it is always ticking as I leave it on my computer table all the time and therefore there is always light to charge the watch.

And click here to me article on My New Toy – Casio Edifice EQB-900DB-2A Solar Powered with Bluetooth Smartphone Link, Alarm, LED Light and Best Of All Dual Dial World Time.

I was so impressed with the Casio Edifice Solar Bluetooth watch that I started buying Casio G-Shock watches with Bluetooth and Solar Powered of course.

With Bluetooth, we can connect the watch to our Smartphone to set the time zone(s), set alarm without needing to remember which button we need to press on the watch!

So much so I have a Page dedicated to Japanese Solar watches, haha.

UBER Ride from Melbourne Airport to City

I took UBER from the Airport to the city and it cost me less than AUD50. Now here are a few tips:

  1. Select UBER X for cheapest fare.
  2. Now there are also UBER cars which have child/baby safety seat but not many. In Australia babies and toddlers must be in their own seat. However for taxis, babies do not need to be in a car safety seat/crib.

AirAsia Big Points

I completely forgot that I will earn AirAsia Big Points since I paid for the Premium Flatbed tickets. I only realized when I was earning FREE AirAsia Big Points at their Move App as I noted a sudden increase in my points. Below is my wife’s phone where I have stopped playing the games at the Move App for months and you can observe she has 7878 Big Points which should be from her Premium Flatbed ticket KL to Melbourne.

Now I am wondering if I can use the AirAsia Big Points to offset the price for the ride from KLIA2 to my home when I return to KL.
