Life Expectancy Of Malaysians – Why You Must Start Saving Now For Your Retirement

Recently I have been publishing articles related to EPF Savings for your golden years because (1) the current life expectancy of Malaysians is approximately 75 years old; (2) which means if you retire at the age of 55, on average you still need money to survive for another 20 years; and (3) Belanjawanku 2024/2025 stated that a Single needs at least RM1.3M to have a comfortable life if you are retiring soon!

If you have not read my article title EPF Belanjawanku 2024/2025 Guide – You Need More Than RM1M For Your Retirement Which Is What I Have Been Telling You Guys For Years!!! click here to read it.

Last weekend I had an interesting chat with a Bro who bought me lunch at The Gardens and he pointed out something very interesting where he asked – “do you realised that more people you know are dying this year?”

In respect to the above, initially I said we are getting older so of course we know of more people around us dying.

Then the Bro, mentioned – compare Pre-Covid Vaccination and Post Covid Vaccination?

Then it made me realised this 2 years suddenly I know more younger people my age are getting old men diseases such as heart/breathing issues AND yes I heard of many healthy people suddenly getting stroke too.

So I asked uncle google:

Wow! The AI reply at Google really surprised me – (1) After Covid-19 for 2 years in a row Heart Diseases is the leading cause of death AND (2) starting from age 41!!! I guess the above is self-explanatory.

I tell you, if you think you are healthy just because you can jog for 10km you are wrong! I know of couple of people who prior to covid could run for several kms but the after they were infected with covid they has difficulty in breathing (aka long term covid) beside other health issues.

So I google Long Covid and below is from Mayo Clinic:

Please note above is Long Covid associated with those who were infected by the Covid-19 virus and not vaccination which is another thing which you should google and educated yourself.

And today many people are into hiking…… for those of you who into hiking high grounds often…. wait till you are old….. too late to regret for not educating yourself when you were younger on detriments of hiking and “hurting” yourself.

And below table from WHO and it is sure to make sense as many people died due to covid:

Interestingly prior to Covid, the chart shows Life Expectancy had a sudden surge and then dropped to rate similar to 2020 (which is okaylah). It is like share market chart where there is a sudden surge it will be followed by a sharp drop…… but this life expectancy rate has nothing to do with money right?

And on the right side of the chart shown above, somehow it seems that the Life Expectancy in Malaysia age like dropped more compared to the entire world??? Kind of odd right (overall Malaysians still live longer compared to the average age of the people on earth)…. the chart is from WHO and therefore it should be accurate.

BUT HERE IS THE GOOD NEWS, according to DOSM (table below), the Life Expectancy of Malaysians is once again rising:

First thing you will note from above table are (1) Life Expectancy Increase in 2024 compared to 2021; (2) Females have longer life expectancy than Males; and (3) Non-Malaysians have a higher rate of Life Expectancy!!!

However it is odd that Male Indian average Life Expectancy is less than 70 years in 2024(???)

In respect to the above, the life span cannot be due to food because Indian women has longer life span compared to Malaysian Males.

Whatever it is, after we retire on average most people will live for another 20 years or even more! That is why you need to save money now for your retirement because we all know that standard of living just keep rising due to inflation and with the current government increasing minimum wage. new taxes (effective 2025 there will be a 2% tax on companies’ dividends and more to come) plus reducing petrol subsidies you think you will need more money or less to survive?

And never withdraw from Account 3 because once you do (break this principle of withdrawing from your retirement funds when you are not retired yet), you will have less in your golden years.

As I mentioned in my previous articles title Prepared For Tomorrow, if you are having issues trying to stay afloat, then you should relook into your lifestyle, upgrade your skill to have a better job or worst come to worst you can be a Grab Driver until Driverless cars are the norm.

Last but not least, below is what I keep telling you guys:

  1. Have proper nutrition food;
  2. Take Vitamins C & D;
  3. Have adequate sleep – minimum 6 to 8 hours; and
  4. Exercise. Walking is fantastic; and
  5. You must be able to achieve Inner Peace of Demand so that you are able to be stress free as STRESS IS THE ROOT CAUSE OF ALL ILLNESSES; and
  6. And if we learn anything from covid-era, wear mask in public and wash your hands!
