Liquor You Must Try – Clase Azul Reposado Tequila Versus Hennessy XO Cognac Versus Glenmorangie Signet Whisky

If you are a follower of mine, you will know that I am a Cognac lover but I also enjoy whisky once a while.

Click here to view my Cognac and Whiskies collection. The most expensive whisky in my collection is the Hibiki 17 which I have 2 bottles where I bought from Dan Murphy’s in Australia for about AuD500 more than 5 years ago. But my most treasured drink is the Martell Limited Edition 300th Year Anniversary Cordon Bleu which to me is the best cognac in the world. I have now also started to collect Macallan A Night On Earth and Classic Cut.

But like I said, I enjoy Cognac more but whiskies does have more varieties in terms of different unique flavours. However, many years ago I published an article to inform all that whiskies has ZERO or negligible anti-oxidants whereas Cognac on the other hand is good as it has anti-oxidants!

Clase Azul Resposado Tequila

Well, last month I went to Cuba & Mexico for holiday and while in Cancun Mexico, a Dato’ treated me to Patron Silver Tequila by the beach at our resort and to my surprise I liked it! And the same Dato’ told me that Clase Azul Resposado is really good.

The Dato’ mentioned above managed to get 3 bottles of the Clase Azul Resposado from a local liquor retailer and was really kind to offer me (he could have offered to another Bro who drank with us) a bottle since he could only bring 2 bottles back to Malaysia (where we are allowed 1L each from overseas). The Clase Azul Resposado cost me USD185 which is about RM800 which is like about half the price for the same bottle in Malaysia!

Below is the bottle of Clase Azul Resposado Tequila taken a Cancun beach.

And below is the same Clase Azul Resposado price in Malaysia:

Yes the price of the Clase Azul Resposado is kind of ridiculous in Malaysia!

In Australia, the price of the Clase Azul Resposado is about the same range as the Hennessy XO and Glenmorangie Signet.

Anyway I opened the Clase Azul Tequila over dinner when I returned to KL and my cousins said it was good and also the restaurant owner who is a whisky lover.

So does the Clase Azul Resposado contains any anti-oxidant? Below is the answer from Google:

While Clase Azul Reposado tequila is known for its smooth, complex flavor and is made with 100% organic blue agave, it does not contain antioxidants in a way that would be comparable to food or other beverages known for their antioxidant properties. Tequila is primarily a spirit distilled from agave, and its composition focuses on alcoholic content and flavor profiles resulting from the fermentation and aging processes.

Here’s a more detailed explanation:

  • Antioxidants in Tequila: Tequila itself does not naturally contain high levels of antioxidants in the same way that fruits, vegetables, or certain teas do.

Process of Tequila Production:

The production of Clase Azul Reposado involves slow-cooking agave, fermentation, distillation, and aging in oak barrels. These processes primarily focus on transforming the agave into a spirit and imparting flavor characteristics rather than enhancing antioxidant content.

Flavor Profile of Reposado:

Clase Azul Reposado is known for its smooth, complex flavor profile with notes of vanilla, hazelnut, and other aromatic elements that come from the aging process in American whiskey casks.

No Added Antioxidants:

Clase Azul’s production process, from the agave to the final distillation, doesn’t involve adding any antioxidants or other substances that would contribute to a high antioxidant content.

In summary, while Clase Azul Reposado is a high-quality tequila with a distinct flavor, it’s not primarily known or formulated for its antioxidant benefits. Its focus is on the quality of the agave, the aging process, and the resulting flavor characteristics of the spirit

Glenmorangie Signet

My brothers in-law are whisky lovers and I once asked one of them which is the most memorable whisky he had and he replied Glenmorangie Sighet. So I tried it for the first time about 3 years back and loved it! Since then I have been buying the Glenmorangie Signet when I can find a bottle for less than RM1K. You can even get it at KrisShop and with 20% off it is a very good deal.

Below was the last photo I took of my Glenmorangie Signet Collection:

So does the Glenmorangie Signet contains any anti-oxidant? Below is the answer from Google:

While it’s difficult to definitively state that Glenmorangie Signet has “antioxidant” content in the same way that fruits and vegetables do, the aging and blending processes used in creating this whisky may contribute to certain antioxidant properties. The unique barley varieties and aging in specific cask types (like American New Oak and Oloroso Sherry) likely impart complex flavors, and potentially some antioxidant activity, to the final product.

It’s important to note that Glenmorangie does not explicitly state that their Signet whisky has significant antioxidant properties in their marketing materials.

Hennessy XO Cognac – My Favorite Base Cognac

I have posted many photos of me enjoying Hennessy XO at my personal FB and have been frequently buying it. And if you have followed me long enough, you will know that I have mentioned that the Hennessy XO from Europe taste better than the ones we get it Malaysia!

Recently I bought a couple bottles of Hennessy XO from KrisShop and once again it tasted better than the ones I get in Malaysia!

So does the Hennessy XO contains any anti-oxidant? Below is the answer from Google:

Yes, Hennessy XO cognac contains antioxidants. Cognac, including Hennessy XO, is made from grapes and aged in oak barrels, which contribute to its antioxidant content. The primary antioxidants in cognac are polyphenols, including resveratrol and ellagic acid. These antioxidants help combat free radicals in the body, potentially reducing oxidative stress and inflammation. The Cognac.com article suggests that the levels of polyphenols can vary depending on the aging process and grape variety. The Livestrong article mentions that ellagic and gallic acids, as well as vanillin, are major antioxidant constituents in cognac.

Hennessy XO cognac is a blend of over 100 eaux-de-vie, with the youngest having been aged for a minimum of 10 years. These eaux-de-vie are aged in French oak barrels, which contribute to the cognac’s unique, robust, and rich character. The aging process is key to the distinctive qualities of Hennessy XO, as it allows the cognac to develop a satisfying and persistent flavor.

Recently I had an Air Miles Gathering and I brought along 2 bottles of Hennessy XO for all to enjoy 🙂

CONCLUSION

All the three drinks mentioned above are really nice and you should try them if you have not. The 3 drinks mentioned above are in the same price range (not in Malaysia but in Australia) but ONLY THE HENNESSY XO 100% CONTAINS ANTI-OXIDANTS because it is aged in Oak Barrels for minimum 10 Years! So if you know what is good for your health, you should stop drinking whiskies, tequilas, gins and rums! Only drink Cognac minimum XO which has significant anti-oxidants but of course in moderation.
