How To Connect To Two External Monitors With A Laptop That Has Only 1 HDMI Out – I Did It With My Nptebook Acer Nitro 5 USB To HDMI

Introduction

Previously I shared that I bought a new 27 in Acer Nitro XV270 P 27in IPS 165Hz Monitor because I was not happy with my older Philips 27 in monitor.

Initially I thought I give my old Philips 27in monitor to my second son so that he can use it with his more than 4 years Acer Nitro 5 i7 when he is back in KL. But he is stuck in Melbourne and I doubt he will be returning anytime soon because of the current Covid-19 crisis.

So, I thought I might as well connect my Acer Nitro 5 to the Philips monitor and thus I will have 3 screens. But the Acer Nitro 5 only comes with 1 HDMI output!!! No VGA or DP (Display Port) outputs.

Most newer laptops nowadays also have Type C USB. And if you google or visit online shopping sites like Lazada or Shopee, you will see that there are many USB Type C to HDMI adapters.

In respect to the above, I then went googling and reading reviews of USB to HDMI adapters here and there including at Lazada Online Shopping website.

Based on my “research”, only USB Type C with Thunderbolt is able to be used for external display such as TV or computer monitor.

Sadly, my Acer Nitro 5 with AMD Ryzen 7 does not have Type C USB Thunderbolt and therefore cannot be used to connect to another external monitor with any adapter!

So I kept “researching”and I found a USB to HDMI Adapter which most people said that it works!!!
