My New Toy – Acer Nitro XV270 P 27in IPS 165Hz Monitor Review

As some of you are aware, I am half blind. Therefore I need to huge monitor for my reading and blogging needs.

Prior to today, for my blogging needs, i.e. drafting articles, editing photos and creating videos, I use an Acer Nitro 5 Ryzen 7 notebook hooked up to an external Philips 27in monitor.

I have been using the above said Philips 27″ FHD 60Hz monitor for the last couple years but I am not too happy with it.

Previously I have shared that my second son is a gaming addict and because he was awarded a scholarship from his University last year for this year’s tuition fee, I allowed him to spend part of the money on a gaming rig which cost more than RM7K which included a 32 in Curved Monitor with 144Hz QHD (3440×1440). Click here to read My Son Gaming Rig Part 1 and click here Part II which shows his freaking cool graphics card with moving led lights.

So I asked my second son what monitor to get? Since he is aware that I mostly use computers for my blogging needs and surfing the internet which involves a lot of text, he told me that a 32″ monitor would need to be QHD (3440x1440p) so that the text are sharper compare to FHD (1920x1080p).

So I went searching for a monitor but I am not willing to spend more than RM1K on a new monitor. Therefore based on my budget, a 3440x1440p monitor is out since they all cost more than RM1K.

After doing some research here and there, I decided to get the Acer Nitro XV270 P 27″ monitor with FHD (1920x1080p) which comes with IPS panel, which is excellent. It also has 165Hz refresh rate but that depends on many factors to reach this 165Hz.

The retail price of the Acer Nitro XV270 P is RM879.

But we can get the Acer Nitro Xv270P for less at Lazada.

I bought the Acer Nitro XV270P for less than RM820 as I used Maybank Weekend Happy Hour Promo Code where we get RM20 discount if we spend minimum RM180. That’s more than 10% discount if you spend exactly RM180. So far I have used the Maybank Happy Hour Promo Code on 2 weekends and saved myself RM40. And since I used my Maybank Visa Infinite to pay for the Acer Nitro XV270P 27″ monitor, I also earned air miles on top of the RM20 discount 🙂

The Acer Nitro XV270P was delivered to my home within 3 working days.

I am using the new Acer Nitro 27″ Monitor connected via HDMI to my Acer Nitro 5 notebook as I am drafting this article. I am very happy with the monitor. The text are sharp and the images super clear.

However, my Acer Nito 5 notebook only has one HDMI output and therefore I can’t connect to my Philips 27″ in order to have 3 monitors (including my notebooK) working simultaneously.

Having said the above, I have ordered a USB 3.1 to HDMI adapter from China and hopefully this will enable me to connect to my old Philips 27″ monitor too.

FYI, Acer Nitro 5 notebook does come with a Type C USB jack (non-Thunderbolt) BUT it cannot be used to connect to an external monitor because only USB Type C with Thunderbolt can do so.

Besides the IPS panel and 165Hz refresh rate, the other reason why I opted for the Acer Nitro XV270 P monitor is because it has 2 x 2W speakers. I must say the Acer monitor speakers are pretty good, way better than the speakers in my Acer Nitro 5 notebook.

Below is an image of the Acer Nitro XV270P taken with my Samsung Note 10 Lite. As you can see, the photo is really nice because the monitor’s screen refresh rate.

As you can observed from the above, the small text are super clear too.

Well, I have created a YouTube Acer Nitro XV270P Monitor Review where you can see that it (1) goes up and down, (2) tilt back and forth and (3) swivel 360 degrees. I have also inserted a fast action video played on the Acer Nitro XV270P. The recording was done with my Samsung Note 10 Lite and you will see that the recording is super sharp (which means the monitor’s refresh rate and IPS panel is good) considering that I am using a mobile phone to record it.

Conclusion

I am happy that I decided to get the Acer Nitro XV270P with IPS panel and 165Hz refresh rate. I believe this monitor will have less strain on my eyes and therefore I can produce more long winded articles in comfort, haha.

Next time I am going to show you hpw to superimpose an image into any background using Paint App and Paint 3D App that come pre-installed with Windows.

Oh yes, I am also super happy with my Entry Level Samsung Note 10 Lite which I bought for less than RM2K. Click here to read why I decided to thet the Samsung Note 10 Lite.
