The Best Cash Back Credit Card for Petrol 2024

If you have been following me for years, you would definitely be most grateful to me for teaching you how to earn free money from credit cards. And the best cash back credit card for years, actually more than a decade, and still going strong is the Maybank 2 Cards Gold and/or Platinum AMEX.

There is basically no difference in terms of benefits between the Maybank 2 Gold Cards and the Maybank 2 Platinum Cards – both are Entry Level Credit Cards where the Platinum only makes you Shiok Sendiri, haha.

Today the Maybank 2 Cards come with a MasterCard and American Express. The MasterCard (or some like me has the Visa) is totally useless and you can keep it in the drawer – Tip, do not activate the MasterCard or Visa and you won’t need to pay the RM25 SST 🙂

The Maybank 2 Gold/Platinum Cards AMEX is the card we want because it earns us:

A. 5% cash back on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) for all types of transactions except for Government, eWallet (this means Grab Wallet, Lazada Wallet and Shopee Wallet) and Utilities. Now please differentiate between topping up Grab Wallet, Lazada Wallet, Shopee Wallet and other eWallet versus using your Maybank 2 Cards Gold/Platinum AMEX to pay directly for Grab Rides, Grab Food, Lazada and Shopee to where you do earn 5% cash back on weekends.

B. 5X Treats Points Monday to Friday for all types of transactions except for Government, Insurance, eWallet (this means Lazada Wallet and Shopee Wallet), Utilities and Education.

So with the Maybank 2 Cards Gold/Platinum AMEX, we can earn 5% cash back for Petrol (today Petron no longer accepts AMEX after they upgraded their system), Groceries, Telcos (Maxis, Celcom, Telekom), Astro, Movies, Makan (Starbucks, TGIF & etc), Gadgets and etc. NOW here is a tip, you can use your Maybank 2 Cards Gold/Platinum at Lazada to pay bills (example water which is considered as utility) and you will earn 5% cash back on weekends 🙂

And for years too I have taught all of you that – if you need more cash back for Petrol (any Petrol station) and Groceries, then to compliment your Maybank 2 Card Gold/Platinum AMEX, you should also get the Maybank Islamic Ikhwan MasterCard Gold-i or Platinum-i.

With Maybank Islamic Ikhwan MasterCard Gold-i or Platinum-i, you can then earn additional 5% cash back for Petrol and Groceries on Friday and Saturday.
