Malaysia Best Credit Cards 2024 for Cash Back and Air Miles\

The Best Credit Card for Air Miles 2024

As I mentioned in Page 1, the Maybank 2 Cards Premier AMEX Reserve now only earns us 2X TP for local spending, this means we earn 1 air mile for every RM3.50 spent LOCALLY.

Before I proceed further, below is the conversion rate of Treats Points to Air Miles for different Maybank’s credit cards:

So from the above chart:

Maybank Visa Infinite and AMEX Reserve earn you 1 Enrich Point or KrisFlyer or Asia Miles for every RM3.50 and RM1.40 spend Locally and Overseas respectively.

Maybank 2 Gold/Platinum Cards AMEX with 5X TP Mon to Friday earn you 1 Enrich Point or KrisFlyer or Asia Miles for every RM2.80 spent locally or overseas. What this means is the Entry Level Maybank 2 Cards Gold AMEX is better for LOCAL spending than the Maybank 2 Cards Premier (Visa Infinite and AMEX Resever)!!! Go figure…….

So many people now holds the Maybank AMEX KrisFlyer Platinum where you can earn 1 KrisFlyer Mile for every RM2.50 spent locally.

But here is the thing, if 1 KrisFlyer mile is worth RM0.05 (say when you redeem for Biz Class), then you are only getting 2% returns!!! OK, say you redeem 1st Class and 1 KF mile is worth RM0.10, then you are only getting 4% returns!!! Heck, it is smarter to play cash back with the cards I mentioned in previous pages!!!

As for Enrich Points, all of you have been told that the Alliance Bank credit cards are the best for accumulating Enrich Points even with Alliance Bank inflating their redemption rate to 15K Timeless Bonus Points = 1K Enrich Point.

BUT I have shown you that Enrich Point today are kind of useless in my previous article titled KrisFlyer versus Enrich (click here to read it).

In respect to the above, I am now going to present to you the Maybank Petronas Visa Credit Card πŸ™‚

The Maybank Petronas Visa IS NOT An Islamic Banking Product, what this means is you can just go to Maybank Card Centre at Gardens or 1 Utama and apply for it based on your current Maybank credit card’s credit limit πŸ™‚

You see, unlike the Maybank Ikhwan credit card, it is from Maybank Islamic Bank, which is technically different from Maybank, thus you will have separate credit limit for both Maybank credit card and Maybank credit card-i.

Because of the “separate” credit limit, many Maybank credit card holders were rejected when they applied for the Ikhwan credit card!

So with the Maybank Petronas Visa (without the -i) where you can earn 8X Treats Points at Petronas on Saturday and Sunday plus also 8X TP for groceries, this means you will earn 1 Enrich Point or KrisFlyer Miles or Asia Miles for every RM1.75!!!

With 1 Kris Flyer mile for every RM1.75 spent, and assuming you getting RM0.10 when you redeem for a Singapore Airlines First Class ticket, then you are getting more than 5% cash back.

And best of all, the Maybank Petronas Visa is also FREE FOR LIFE!!!

Now, if you want slightly better conversion rate for Petrol, Groceries and Telcos, then you can consider the American Express Platinum Credit Card (without the Maybank Logo) but IT IS NOT FREE For Life.

Coming back to redeeming air miles with your Treats Points, above I have shown you the chart that shows you the Treats Points required to convert to air miles with different Maybank credit cards – for example for normal Maybank Visa and MasterCard, we need 7000 TP = 500 KrisFlyer which is equivalent to 14K TP = 1K KrisFlyer.

But when I google with my smartphone and landed on a Maybank website to redeem Treats Points, I could not redeem KrisFlyer miles!!! See below image. If you want to convert your Treats Points from your normal Maybank Visa or MasterCard to KrisFlyer – call Maybank Customer Service.
