UOB PRVI Miles Elite Card – Quick Review On One Of The Best Credit Card For Overseas Transactions

UOB PRVI Miles Elite TnC

Click here to UOB website to read the TnC for the PRVI Miles Elite Card.

First thing you must understand, UOB is a foreign bank and therefore it is not as kind as Maybank! Maybank is very good in the sense that they will give advance notice on any change to their credit cards’ TnC (you don’t read Maybank announcement or GenX GenY GenZ everyday is you fault if you missed any announcement – example the recent announcement by yours truly, on 30th April 2024, that you must take immediate actions on 1st May 2024 to convert your TP to air miles)

If you refer to UOB PRVI Miles Elite Card TnC (click lah the link given above and read it), you will notice the first thing is that it is stated “Effective Date: 29 February 2024”. If you failed to understand the significant of this statement, let me explain to those of you who are blur and don’t use your brains when reading…..

What the above means is that UOB can suka-suka change their credit cards’ TnC without giving you any advance notice like Maybank 21 days!

First of all, nowhere in the TnC was it stated when will the 10X and 5X UNIRinggit ends!

Under the General TnC Clause 6, it is stated:

To the fullest extent permitted by law, UOB Malaysia reserves the right to add, delete, vary, revise, cancel, withdraw, terminate or suspend these Terms and Conditions including the Rewards Programme in whole or in part, at any time with adequate prior written notice to the Cardmember by way of posting on UOB Malaysia’s website, displaying a notice at any of UOB Malaysia’s branches, a statement insert in the Statement of Account or any other manner as may be determined by UOB Malaysia from time to time.

What is adequate time? 72 hours? Hahaha.

Therefore, you must read the TnC of the UOB credit card you are interested in AND understand it! The UOB VI TnC are different where is states the 8X UNIRinggit is effective until 31st December 2024.

Conversion of UNIRinggit to Air Miles

As you can observe from above, the conversion rate for the UOB PRVI Miles Elite Card is 9000 UNIRinggit = 1000 Asia Miles or KrisFlyer or Enrich Miles.

With the above mentioned conversion rate, this means you can earn 1 air mile for every RM0.90 spent overseas!!! This is really really good, just like the good old days of Maybank Visa Infinite when it was launched.

Just in case you are freaking blur, you must pay in foreign currency (other than Ringgit Malaysia) to be entitled to 10X UNIRinggit. Never select pay in MYR…… so make sure you see the amount is not in MYR before you tap your card as sometimes the merchant “keh khiang” where they may select MYR!!!

What about 5X UNIRinggit for Airlines?

With the 5X UNIRinggit, you will earn 1 air mile for every RM1.80 spent. Is this good?

Well for Maybank 2 Cards Premier, today we will only earn 2X TP from Local Spending (in MYR) and with the conversion rate 10K = 1K Air Miles, this equates to 1 air mile for every RM5 spent! So the UOB PRVI Miles Elite is definitely way better in this case.

What if you are paying for Airlines tickets not in MYR? Then with the Maybank 2 Cards you will get 5X TP or 1 air mile for every RM2 spent. But wait, for the UOB PRVI Miles Elite, if you pay in other than MYR, you will get 8X UNIRinggit right. So for Airlines the UOB PRVI Miles Elite Card is better than Maybank 2 Cards Premier.

As for Local Spending, the UOB Elite card is totally useless as you only earn 1X UNIRinggit.

CONCLUSION

The UOB PRVI Miles Elite Card is good for those who do have substantial overseas spending.

If you spend less than RM10K (which is less than USD3K) per year overseas, I reckoned you better don’t waste your time with this card as you will earn less than 12K Air Miles per year.

On the other hand, if you do spend more than RM60K equivalent overseas (e.g. paying tuition fees, buying luxury stuff, paying body corp for your overseas property and etc), then I think this card is good as you can earn more than 60K KrisFlyer Miles per year and more importantly 2X more air miles compared to Maybank 2 Cards Premier for overseas transactions.
