UOB Visa Infinite versus UOB PRVI Elite Miles World MasterCard
UOB Visa Infinite Effective 15 August 2024
Well finally UOB revised their VI to earn at least the same number of miles with the PRVI Miles Elite as far as overseas transactions are concerned considering the VI is of higher status (see eligibility income requirement of both cards in image above).
Overseas Transactions
So with the UOB VI also earning 10X UNIRM for overseas transactions, it means it now earns the cardholder 1 air mile for every RM0.90 spent overseas.
Please note that the transactions must be other than RM. DO NOT choose to pay in Ringgit Malaysia as you will only earn 1X UNRM. Some merchants will choose RM for you so make sure you tell the cashier you want to pay in their currency.
Local Dining
Another advantage of the UOB VI is that we earn 5X UNIRM for local dining (based on calendar month and the extra UNIRM will be credited on the first day of the month). With 5X UNIRM, it means we earn 1 Air Mile for every RM1.80 spent. This is very good especially at restaurants which do not accept AMEX.
HOWEVER, in order to earn 5X UNIRM for Local Dining, one must spent minimum RM1K per calendar month at restaurants (non Grab Food, haha).
Double Air Miles
Another good benefit of the UOB VI is that we enjoy double air miles redemption during your birthday month but it is capped at max 27K UNIRM redemption (you will earn 6K Air Miles instead of 3K).
Annual Fee
The UOB VI annual fee is RM600 but for those new to UOB, you will get 3 years annual fee waiver. Also it is stated in the Disclosure Sheet that the annual fee is waived with RM50K spending.
Well, at least the UOB VI has auto anuual fee waiver mechanism so that we do not need to go beg for annual fee waiver unlike the UOB PRVI Miles Elite.
Now, the UOB PRVI Miles Elite will reward the cardholder with 60,000 UNIRM upon annual fee payment, but how many fools actually pay the annual fees for their credit cards? Anyway 60K UNIRM can only be converted to 6.7K Air Miles.
FYI, an Air Mile Disciple of mine told me that UOB waived his RM600 annual fee for the PRVI Miles Elite.
Lounge Access
With the UOB VI you will get 12X Lounge Access but only for Asia Pacific unless you have the UOB Privilege Banking VI then it is worldwide. We need to use an App for the Airport Lounge and not show the card (take note).
The PRVI Miles Elite limits the cardholder to Plaza Premium Lounges in 9 countries. Therefore the UOB VI is more superior as far as Lounge Access is concerned.
Other Benefits
For those who are new to UOB, you will receive 50,000 UNIRM when you activate and spend RM5,000 within 60 days of card approval date.
0% Interest for Education and Medical – this has been offered for the UOB VI for many years.
As for the LIMO Ride, you go read the TnC.
CONCLUSION
With UOB VI revised 10X UNIRM for overseas transactions, I would say it is better than UOB PRVI Miles Elite because of 3 reasons – (1) Birthday Month Bonus, (2) 5X UNIRM for Local Dining and (3) Airport Lounge Access.
