CONCLUSION
First and foremost, always get credit cards that offer you FREE FOR LIFE Annual Fee Waiver without any condition. Most of the credit cards mentioned above are FREE FOR LIFE except for the Maybank KrisFlyer AMEX. However if you do spend like RM50K per year with the Maybank KrisFlyer AMEX, they may waive the annual fee.
Secondly, you get better value from your credit card reward points when you redeem for First Class or worst Business Class. If you are redeeming your air miles, especially Enrich Points for Economy Class tickets, then I guess you be better off playing cash back credit cards as you will be earning much more in returns! Seriously, for spending up to RM5.8K per month, do some research yourself and you can earn more than RM2,880 per year which means in 3 years time you can earn RM8640 which can allow you to purchase a one way Business Class ticket to London or return Biz Class to Japan! But like I said you can only feel the cash back from your credit cards if you follow the instructions in my engineered hack.
If you are my long time follower, you may be asking what about Maybank Premier Credit Cards? Well, if you have been reading my posts you will know that I am pissed off with Maybank which now forces us to stay awake every 1st day of the month to convert our Reward Points to Air Miles! That is why in this article I only mentioned Maybank KrisFlyer AMEX Platinum which credit the KirsFlyer Miles automatically! Moreover, the Maybank 2 Cards Premier maximum earn us 1 Air Mile for every RM2.50 spend….. the KrisFlyer AMEX on the other hand earns us 1 KrisFlyer for every RM2 spent online!!! Having said this, if one is really really a big spender and willing to put up with the hassle from Maybank, then it may be good to get the American Express Charge Card Platinum for LOCAL SPENDING ONLY because we earn more air miles with UOB Visa Infinite for Foreign Currency spending!!!
And with the Maybank Revision effective 22nd February 2025 (click here to read my article on the revision), the Maybank Premier Credit Cards are not worthwhile to own as there are other credit cards that earn us more air miles for every RM1 spent!
Another thing, only fools who have not been reading my articles will assume that Maybank will waive the annual fee of their Premier Credit Card(s) if they spent less than RM80K per year. If you cannot spent RM80K per year, redeem all your Treats Points a month before your card anniversary date and terminate the Maybank Premier Credit Card before the anniversary date so that you won’t be a fool trying to beg Maybank to waive the annual fee! And do not be a fool thinking your card anniversary date is the month of the expiry shown in your card. Call Maybank Customer Service to confirm exactly when is you card anniversary – you may need to speak to 2 CS to reconfirm the date because only you are to be blame if the dates you were told are incorrect. Never assume but be kiasu and double tripe confirm.
Besides FREE Money, FREE Air Miles and FREE Hotel Rooms, I have also touched on FREE access to Airport Lounges. Alliance Bank VI and UOB VI plus also the useless Maybank VI give us FREE access to airport lounges.
Once again, playing cash back credit cards will earn you significant amount over the years on condition you follow the instructions in my hack to feel your money grow else you are just wasting your time where you will never feel the money and it makes no difference to your life.
As for air miles, nowadays it is harder to earn FREE air miles from thin air, not impossible but much less compared to pre-covid. So many today are buying air miles. Well, if you really fly here and there then I guess buying air miles is a smart move. However if you are tight on money and buying air miles I guess you better get your priorities correct where you should be saving money or pay off your debts so that you attained the level of Chiak Bui Liow (you in positive net-worth territory and more than enough for retirement) asap and then really really earn FREE Money from thin air (example interest from FD and EPF…. you have RM2M and interest/dividend rate is average 5%, you will then earn RM100K from thin air tax free and headache free).
