As I mentioned in the previous article, last minute (late last week) I decided to fly to Melbourne (early this week) and only started to search for FREE tickets and as usual I am blessed with Business Class tickets, i.e. Malaysia Airlines Biz Class KUL to MEL and Singapore Airlines Biz Class SYD to SIN to KUL.
I have produced many Live Travel Reports Kuala Lumpur/Australia (Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney) over the years and for the first time in March 2024 I flew with Malaysia Airlines Business Class Melbourne to KLIA on their newly leased ex-SAS Airbus 350-900.
The Business Class seats of the ex-SAS Airbus A350 do look nicer than the A330 Malaysia Airlines Blue Business Class seats BUT that is about all, the food and service is the same, haha. However, I would like to mention that, post-covid, I am very happy with the On-Board Service provided by the Malaysia Airlines Business Class Cabin Crew especially their Chief Stewards/Stewardess (now called In-Flight Supervisor) who are mainly senior cabin crew who have been servicing passengers for more than 20 years. I tell you, be friendly with the In-Flight Supervisor as he/she is the “boss” as far as making the passengers happy.
Advance Grab Ride Booking
My flight to Melbourne was at 9.20 am on a working day, and you all know lah the traffic will be freaking bad if we were to leave our homes after 6.30 am on a working day. Therefore, I decided to leave my home at 5.45 am to avoid the traffic and be at the airport around 6.45 am.
I contacted the driver who has taken us (my wife and I) to the airport 2 days prior to my departure but he was already booked. So me as usual being kiasu, to ensure my ride will be ready at 5.45am, I book Advance Booking with Grab. Usually the ride from my home to the airport cost about RM65 with Just Grab but with the Advance Booking it cost me RM87, which is about RM22 more. BUT is is still cheaper than the RM100-RM150 which I would have to pay to a friend who sent us to or pick us from KLIA.
The only thing about Grab is, sometimes I get a saloon (minimum Perodua Benza) or SUV but sometimes it can be a Myvi too. For Myvi or Axia, 2 persons is not much an issue even if you have 2 check-in luggages but if there are 3 passengers with 3 suitcases then it will not fit. Nowadays, at the airport, if the car is a Myvi, the driver will message you to confirm how many passengers…… so check your Grab Messages.
KLIA Check In and Plaza Premium First
I reached the airport before 6.45 am and immediately proceeded to Business Class Check-In. I did not check-in online but I just need to simply pass my passport to person manning the counter. Actually, this is what I always do when I am flying First Class or Business Class. However, if I am flying Economy, I will make sure I Check-In Online at least a day before my flight, haha.
After getting our Boarding Passes, I headed straight to Plaza Premium First located at the Main Terminal. You may be asking why when I am flying Business Class and thus get to enter Golden Lounge? The reason is because I am damn lazy, hahaha. You see, at Plaza Premium First, we scan the QR Code to order our food and it will be delivered to our table 🙂
I have 2 cards that grant me FREE entry to Plaza Premium First. So basically I can enter it 24X a year, haha. Below are some photos of the food taken during my last visit.
As you can see from above, they have Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang but I ordered the Eggs Benedict as I have already pre-booked Nasi Lemak for my main meal on-board the plane. Another thing, I do love the Red Velvet cake at Plaza Premium First, maybe it is the icing.
My wife on the other hand ordered the Nasi Lemak plus chocolate cake and she had Nasi Lemak again on the plane, hahahaha.
I also have Alliance VI, Maybank VI and UOB PB VI which allow me FREE entries to Plaza Premium Lounge next to the Plaza Premium First. Actually you can walk between them via a corridor linking them inside the lounge. So say if your parents or children are at the Plaza Premium Lounge (which you use your other cards), you can suka-suka go check on them if you are at Plaza Premium First.
Malaysia Airlines BMW 7 Series Ride
Previously at my article titled GenX’s Live Travel Report With Malaysia Airlines SAS Airbus A350-900 On Business Class Melbourne To KL March 2024 Including BMW 7 Series Ride At KLIA, I rode the Malaysia Airlines BMW 7 Series for the first time.
Since I am flying with Malaysia Airlines again, I get to ride on the BMW 7 Series from the Main Terminal to the Satellite Terminal again. If you are flying with any other airline on Business Class, then you get to take the Premium Shuttle Bus instead which is also very comfy.
Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge
The main reason why I wanted to go to the MAS Golden Lounge is because they have a Smoking Room where I can enjoy my drink as I smoke, haha.
In December 2023, I did fly with Malaysia Airlines Business Class and that time, the Bar inside the Golden Lounge Bar was serving Hennessy VSOP. I take this opportunity to thank Malaysia Airlines’ Management for serving reasonable good quality cognac 🙂
However, this time around the bar was closed! It only opens at 10 am. I guess God does not want me get mabuk early in the morning, hahaha. So I got myself a coffee and headed straight to the Smoking Room.
After my body got the dose of nicotine it needed, I checked what food were on the buffet table and they had Nasi Lemak too. So I headed to the Noodle Section and had Wonton Noddle.
I still had so much time that I decided to go take a shower (I already taken my shower at home earlier) to waste time, haha.
After the shower, I went and got myself another mug of coffee and headed to the Smoking Room again before boarding the plane.
