CIMB Bonus Points for IHG, Marriot and Others

You can convert 10,000 CIMB Bonus Points to 1,000 IHG Reward Points.

From the above, you can see that you may need 15,000 IHG One Rewards Points (converted from 150,000 CIMB Bonus Points) to get a free room at InterContinental KL.

Below shows the price of a room at InterContinental KL when I googled:

So with you spending about RM15K overseas with the CIMB Travel Premier Credit Cards, you can get a room that is worth about RM512 to RM666 (now I got no idea if we need to pay any additional fees for taxes); this works out to 3.41% to 4.4%.

If you ask me, return of less than 5% from our overseas spending is a waste of time!

And for the case of CIMB Travel Platinum Credit Card where we earn 2BP for every RM1 spent locally, we are getting a return of less than 1%!!!

Below are another two examples:

For the Majestic Hotel above, usually we can get a room for less than RM500. therefore the returns will be worst off compared to the IHG example.

Let’s check out Accor’s case where we can get EUR40 Discount with every 40K CIMB Bonus Points.

EUR40 equates to approximately RM180.

We need to spend approximately RM4K overseas with the CIMB Premier Travel Credit Cards to earn 40K BP. Therefore we are getting approximately 4.5% (RM180/RM4K) returns.

For local spending where you earn 2XBP for every RM1 spent, don’t waste your time even thinking of using your Bonus Points earned from the CIMB Travel Platinum Credit Card for hotels, hahaha.

Having said the above, some of you big spender may have lots of CIMB Bonus Points, i.e. millions of CIMB Bonus Points, then I guess by you converting your CIMB Bonus Points to Hotel Reward Points, it can assist you in burning your CIMB Bonus Points 🙂
