So today, all of us who are holding the Maybank 2 Cards Premier have to get another credit card for our Local Spending. But the problem is most of you who are my long time followers will find it kind of hard to get a new credit card from a bank which you do not have an existing credit card! For the past few years, many have reported that their applications for Entry Level Credit Cards such as Affin Duo and Alliance Bank were rejected despite them holding the Maybank 2 Cards Premier with minimum credit limit of RM30K!

The reason why it is so hard to get a new credit card from an issuer which you do not currently hold a credit card with – is because of BNM Guidelines which was designed to prevent people from getting deeper into debts! Many people have housing loan, car loan and existing credit cards; therefore their liabilities are high and if they are unemployed or suddenly their income comes to a halt for whatever reason, HABIS!

So if one is having 3 existing credit cards from 3 different banks with total Credit Limit of RM100K but his annual income is also RM100K, you tell me does it make any sense to give the person another credit card with a new Credit Limit? Of course not because his/her liabilities are already RM100K without even considering if he has any loans.

If you are currently holding a Maybank 2 Cards Premier, all you need to do is walk into a Maybank Card Centre at The Gardens or 1 Utama and without submitting any documents you can then ADD any credit card issued by Maybank and approved instantly; because the Credit Limit is shared, i.e. no additional liabilities.

However, you may not be approved for a Maybank Islamic Bank credit card as the Credit Limit is separate from Maybank Credit Card! That is why many also were shocked when their application (where the applicant needs to submit proof of income) for a Maybank Islamic Bank credit card was rejected despite holding the Maybank 2 Cards Premier.
