CONCLUSION
Well, for me I guess I will take a miss on the Maybank Premier Card 10% Cash Back for Shell Petrol Promo since it is not guaranteed and the cash back only paid somewhere in the 1st quarter of 2026.
As for RHB Shell Visa, the annual income requirement is RM24K to qualify for the card; but one needs to spend RM3K per month (RM36K per year) to earn reasonable cash back of 3% or more. This is a joke!
So for those of you earning RM30K per year or more the better, I recommend that you hold the following credit cards from Maybank:
- Maybank Islamic Ikhwan Mastercard Gold Card-i – for petrol and/or groceries on Friday and Saturday up to RM1K spending to earn guaranteed RM50 per month in cash back.
- Maybank 2 Gold/Platinum Cards AMEX for many types of transactions on Saturday or Sunday (examples are Grab Food, Grab Rides, Groceries, Petrol, makan, movies, bills at Lazada, Malaysia Airlines, Agoda and etc). Maximum guaranteed cash back RM50 per month.
- Maybank Islamic PETRONAS Ikhwan Visa Gold Card-i for 8% cash back for Petrol. Pump RM625 on Saturday or Sunday and get guaranteed RM50 cash back.
- Last but not least, you must also get the Maybank Islamic Ikhwan American Express Platinum Card-i (mentioned in Page 3 of my article titled The Best Credit Cards in MAlaysia 2025) which earns you 8% cash back EVERYDAY for Online Transactions which include Agoda, Shopee, Lazada, Grab Rides and Grab Food. Cash Back capped at RM50 per month and for 2 months in a year capped at RM100!
So with the 4 cash back credit cards listed above, you can earn up to RM200 or RM250 per month with some planning 🙂
There is also CIMB Petronas Cash Back Credit Card which you can go check it out.
HOWEVER, many of you who have been following me for years know that playing cash back credit cards are meaningless and a waste of time as we will never see or feel the cash back. This is because the cash back earned will automatically be used to offset our credit card bill. Therefore it is imperative that you save whatever cash back you have earned into a Savings/FD account and with time I tell you, the money in this special savings account will be most helpful for your retirement or even pay for part of your child’s college fees!
