CIMB Travel Platinum MasterCard

The most important thing to know about the CIMB Travel Platinum Credit Card is that it is FREE FOR LIFE!!!

With the CIMB Travel Platinum Credit Card, you earn 5X CIMB Bonus Points and 2X CIMB Bonus Points for Overseas and Local spending respectively.

In Page 2, we need 62.5K CIMB Bonus Points to redeem 5K Enrich Points. This means we need 12,500 CIMB Bonus Points to earn 1K Enrich Points.

With the above, what it means is that we earn 1 Enrich Point for every RM2.50 and RM6.25 for Overseas and Local spending respectively.

And with 1X CIMB Bonus Points we are earning 1 Enrich Point for every RM12.50 spent on transactions related to Insurance, Education and Utility Bills.

What did you notice from above calculations? It is exactly the same as Maybank Visa Infinite or Amex Reserve for earning Enrich Points!!!

However, there is a BIG difference, the CIMB Travel Platinum is FREE For LIFE whereas we need to spend RM80K in order for the annual fee to be waived for the Maybank Visa Infinite or Maybank 2 Cards Premier.

Another difference between the CIMB Travel Platinum versus the Maybank Visa Infinite is the Lounge Access. In order to get FREE Lounge Access with the CIMB Travel Platinum Credit Card, we need to satisfy quarterly spending requirement.

Cardholders will receive 1X lounge access per quarter with minimum quarterly spend of RM3,000. Capped at 4X lounge access per annum. Complimentary entry to children below 2 years old.

So if you do not spend RM3K per quarter with the CIMB Travel Platinum, you won’t be entitled to any FREE Lounge Access versus Maybank VI 5X Lounge Access without needing to spend a sen!

As for KrisFlyer and other FFP Air Miles, we need 75K CIMB Bonus Points to convert to 1K KrisFlyer Miles which works out to 15K CIMB Bonus Points = 1K KrisFlyer Miles.

So with CIMB Travel Platinum 5X Bonus Points for overseas spending, it means we are earning 1 KrisFlyer Mile for every RM3 spent.

On the other hand, we will be earning 1 KrisFlyer Mile for every RM7.50 from Local Spending which earns us 2X CIMB Bonus Points.

So for KrisFlyer or other FFP Air Miles other than Enrich Point, the CIMB Travel Platinum is worst off that Maybank Visa Infinite that earns us 2X Treats Points.

Generally, the CIMB Travel Platinum Credit Card is not as good as the FREE FOR LIFE Hong Leong Bank Visa Infinite to earn Enrich Point from Local spending, However, for Overseas spending (except for Dining) the CIMB Travel Platinum is far more superior that Hong Leong Bank VI.

So having the FREE FOR LIFE CIMB Travel Platinum as standby for Overseas Transactions is good if you do not have Alliance VI or UOB VI or RHB Premier Banking VI to earn Enrich Points.

As for KrisFlyer Miles, I guess the CIMB Travel Platinum credit card can be pretty good at places that you can’t use the the Maybank Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Platinum AMEX.
