Revision to RHB Credit Card Reward Points Effective 9th April 2025 – This Time It Is For Real And You Can Start To Consider Terminating Your RHB Rewards Credit Card UNLESS MAYBE You Have Substantial Overseas Transactions With The Premier Visa Infinite, However, Before You Terminate Your RHB Rewards Credit Card You Better Apply For Their Cash Back Credit Card.

INTRODUCTION

Last year, RHB was supposed to revise their credit cards’ Reward Points Program on 17th October 2024 and therefore I produced an article on their announcement.

In the above said article/review I highlighted several matters and noted that this time around, i.e. their announcement on 17th March 2025, have several changes.

Anyway, if you have a RHB Reward Credit Card, you should receive an email from RHB.

As usual you are not to assume anything but read the damn TnC. However, this time RHB is kind of ridiculous as they make us click on so many links to read the revisions and latest TnCs!!!

I will only highlight (again plus new) some of the changes effective 9th April 2025.

NEW Loyalty Plus Points Loyalty Points

In respect of the above, the first thing I noted is that we earn 10X LoyaltyPlus Points if we spend RM10K and above with the RMB Premier Visa Infinite (issued via RHB Premier Banking).

Second thing I noted is that we now have access to Dubai International Airport and Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airportl BUT as usual you need to read the entire TnC by clicking on the “here” on the right column……. and then you will realized that it is for Plaza Premium Lounge AND you must spend a certain amount! Give me more headaches…. I will need to monitor my spending with my RHB PVI Credit Card.

I tell you UOB Privilege Baking Visa Infinite allows me FREE access to Lounges (not limited to Plaza Premium Lounge only) without spending a sen!

Therefore the RHB Premier Visa Infinite is kind of useless to me effective 9th April 2025 since I need to spend minimum retail spend of RM1,000 and above in the past calendar month1 to earn 1X access to Plaza Premium Lounge!

After reading the Lounge TnC, I had to click “HERE” (as shown in the image above) to read FAQ!!!

Below are parts from the FAQ:

WTF! So many MCC Codes, hahahaha.

Generally we can earn minimum 8X LoyaltyPlus Points from Transactions involving Foreign Currencies. If we spend RM10K (after converting from foreign currencies) then we will earn 10X LoyaltyPlus Points.

Then to confuse us further , we can earn 3X LoyaltyPlus Points from Local Airlines – what the heck does this means? If I am purchasing a ticket with Malaysia Airlines or AirAsia or Batik Air Melbourne to KL in AUD, do I get 8X or 3X Loyalty Points? I guess I should earn minimum 8X LoyaltyPlus Points since the transaction is in AUD – then again what if I selected to pay in MYR? RHB should state LOCAL Currency to be exact – who the heck approved the TnC without proper/specific details/instructions?

And Local Hotel we also get 3X LoyaltyPlus Points as stated BUT what if I use Agoda? Here is where the MCC Codes come into play – damn headache right?

Seriously, if you are going to spend on LOCAL Airlines and Hotels, I will tell you to just use the Maybank KrisFlyer Platinum AMEX (if you do not have Super Premier Cards that requires annual income close or more than RM200K) and earn 1 KrisFlyer Miles for every RM2 spent ONLINE.

And if anyone tells you that the RHB 3X Loyalty Point (no PLUS) is good for dining and ONLINE, that person know nuts about credit cards, hahahaha.

How Much We Need To Spend To Get 1 Air Mile?

From the above table, if you have RHB Premier Visa Infinite, you will earn1 Enrich Point for every RM1 spent. However, if you can spend RM10K per month overseas (now this you need to read the TnC or get further confirmation from RHB if they are referring to Calendar Month or Billing Cycle?) then you can earn 10X LoyaltyPlus Points which equates to 1 Enrich Point for every RM1 spent.

In respect to the above, unless I am paying a bill that is more than RM10K in a single transaction, I won’t be bothered to use my RHB Premier Visa Infinite – this is to ensure I will get 10X Loyalty Plus Points.

If you are a KrisFlyer Fan, then it will be stupid of you to use your RHB Premier VI when you can earn 1 FrisFlyer Mile for every RM1 spent with your UOB Privilege Banking Visa Infinite.

As for the 3X Loyalty Point (no PLUS) where you will earn from Dining and Online, you will need to spend RM5 just to earn 1 Enrich Point. Like I mentioned earlier, use your Maybank KrisFlyer Platinum AMEX for LOCAL spending!!!

And if you are an Enrich Points Fan, the Alliance Bank VI or Plat or VC is way better than RHB Rewards Credit Cards for Dining and Online transactions.

CONCLUSION

From the above, I can conclude that the RHB Reward Credit Cards are kind of useless for LOCAL Spending effective 9th April 2025. Actually before 9th April 2025 as you will need to redeem before this said date and our transactions need time to be posted so that the Points earned will be reflected at Superdeals.

Seriously, if you have been reading my articles, you will know that the Maybank KrisFlyer Platinum AMEX is damn good. If anyone tell you that AMEX is no good, that person know nuts about credit cards. With the MBB AMEX KF Platinum AMEX, we can earn KF Miles from our essential transactions with TNB and pumping petrol plus groceries too (even at Speed 99)!

In respect to the above, that is why ChatGPT have listed yours truly, i.e. GenX GenY GenZ as one of the Guru Expert in Credit Cards in Malaysia. Click here to read my article titled Credit Card Experts in Malaysia and The Best Credit Cards According to ChatGPT February 2025

As for Overseas spending, i.e. other than MYR – so never select payment in Ringgit Malaysia, only the RHB Premier Visa Infinite may be good if you do spend RM10K per month. Once again you are to check yourself if the RM10K spending is per Calendar Month or Billing Cycle. Actually to be exact, one is only getting BONUS 2X LoyaltyPlus Points if he/she spend more than RM10K.

I may use the RHB Premier VI if and only if I am going to pay RM10K or more equivalent in Foreign Currency in a single transaction but then again there are some credit cards that actually earn you more from Overseas Transactions (you go do your homework if you have substantial overseas transactions).

Now, this article is about RHB Reward Credit Cards. As for Cash Back, there is one RHB credit card that may be very good. I have recommended this said RHB Cash Back Card long ago and I guess I need to share with you immediately which RHB Cash Back Credit Card to get immediately before you terminate your RHB Rewards Credit Card. Click the link below to find out which RHB Cash Back Credit Card is good (but you must read and understand the current TnC on how to maximize the cash back of RM100 per month).
