The Best Top Credit Cards in Malaysia 2025

The Best Cash Back Credit Cards in Malaysia 2025

I will start off with Cash Back Credit Cards, and the first card you must get is the Maybank 2 Gold/Platinum Credit Cards.

Maybank 2 Gold or Platinum Cards

Why is it that you must get the Maybank 2 Gold/Platinum Cards?

No.1 reason – IT IS FREE FOR LIFE without any condition!

No.2 reason – with the AMEX, you are guaranteed 5% cash back on weekends (capped at RM50 per month) for transactions related to essential items such as Petrol, Utility Bills (with Lazada), Telcos (Celcom, DiGi and Maxis), Astro, Grab Rides, Grab Food, Milk (at Supermarket or Lazada or Shopee) and etc.

No.3 reason – it is better than Maybank 2 Cards Premier for Air Miles as far as Local Spending is concerned! To be exact 25% more air miles.

There is no difference in terms of the cash back or air miles you can earn between the Gold and Platinum except the Platinum allows you to shiok sendiri with a higher Credit Limit, haha. Once again, only the AMEX card is good. In general the MasterCard is useless as it earns you 1X TP only but if you have no other credit card then the MasterCard may be useful.

Please note that under Bank Negara Guidelines, those earning less than RM36K per year are only allowed to hold credit cards from two (2) separate banks. And Maybank and Maybank Islamic are totally different entities…… which means if you hold Maybank credit cards (can be more than 1) and a CIMB Credit Cards (can be more than 1), under BNM Guideline you are not entitled to hold a Maybank Islamic Bank Credit Card.

With the above in mind and if you are earning less than RM36K per year, you have to do your own homework in order to determine which credit card are good for your spending pattern.

On the other hand if you are earning more than RM36K per year, you may hold all the cash back credit cards mentioned in Page 3, hahaha.

Here is a tip, in the case of cash back credit cards, the monthly cash back cap is combined with Supplementary Card. So say if you and your spouse are earning between RM24K to RM36K each, you can hold credit cards from banks A+B and your spouse from also banks A+B or other banks such as A+C or C+D. Get it? If no, go think about it in order to optimize.
