Best Air Miles Credit Cards For Local Spending
KrisFlyer Miles
So the first credit card that I am going to recommend for Air Miles Fans is the Maybank Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer American Express® Platinum Credit Card (please click here to read my Review).
Just like the Maybank 2 Gold/Platinum AMEX, the Maybank KrisFlyer AMEX Platinum can be used for almost all essential expenses. This Maybank KrisFlyer AMEX Platinum is definitely better than the Maybank 2 Cards Premier for Local Spending.
And the most important thing I mentioned in the above said review is that the KrisFlyer Miles are automatically credited monthly unlike the stress and hassle we have to go through with a Maybank Credit Card that earns us Treats Points when converting them to air miles.
Besides the Maybank KrisFlyer AMEX Platinum, if you had read all the articles which I gave the links up to this point, you will know that the UOB Visa Infinite is also pretty good to for dining where you can earn 1 KrisFlyer Mile for every RM2.40 spent (minimum RM1K on dining to be eligible for 5X UNIRinggit).
So the next question besides dining and at places where AMEX are not welcome, what credit card should I be using to earn KrisFlyer Miles? To be upfront, I can’t find a credit card that is good for insurance premiums to earn KrisFlyer Miles.
Having said the above, the CIMB eCredit Card may be good if your insurance premium is less than RM1668 per month AND you can pay online on 28th where you earn 12X Bonus Points. With 12X Bonus Points and 75K CIMB Bonus Points to redeem 5K KrisFlyer Miles, it means you earn 1 KF Mile for every RM1.25 spent which is fantastic!

Guess what? You can use CIMB eCC to pay bills at Shopee too on 28th of every month. Yes the CIMB eCC is pretty good except that it is limited to RM1668 spending per month and that’s on 28th only. Like I said, Entry Level Credit Cards can be better than Premier Credit Cards and once again proven to you that there is no such thing as the best credit card but you need to right credit card based on your spending pattern.
As for Topping Up eWallets to earn KrisFlyer Miles, you can look into UOB World Card where the eligibility is annual income of RM60K.
You can earn 12X UNIRinggit (1 KF for every RM1.25 spent on Topping Up eWallet) BUT it is capped at RM300 each for Big Pay, TnG eWallet and Boost. RM300 for some may be kind of low but heck if you need just top up RM300 to any of these said eWallet and not a sen more every month. Based on the conversion rate of 15K UNIRinggit = 1K KrisFlyer Miles, even if you top up RM300 each to the 3 eWallets, you will get less than 1K air miles per month….. you go decide yourself is this card is good for you.
Well. you can get 6X Plaza Premium Lounge access too… not bad.
As for 5X UNIRinggit, it means you will earn 1 KF for every RM3 spent at selected departmental stores & supermarket plus overseas which is nothing great as there are other cards you can consider.
And if you do spend RM48K, you can earn Bonus 125K UNIRinggit which can be converted to 8.3K air miles…. you can decide yourself if this is good compared to the other cards mentioned above.
