If you hold a Maybank Credit Card that earns you Treats Points, most probably you would have received an email on an Agoda Voucher Promotion.
From the above, it seems normally we need 100K TP to redeem RM200 Agoda Voucher which works out to RM1 = 500 TP.
With the promo, we can convert 85K TP to RM170 which means RM1 = 500 TP.
Wait, the so called promotion does need less points but the value we get in terms of 500TP is the same, i.e. RM1.00!!!
So if we are earning 2X TP from Local Spending from our Maybank Visa Infinite or AMEX Reserve, we need to spend RM42,500 to get RM170 Agoda Vocuher which works out to equivalent cash back of 0.4!!!
I have told my readers many times that today – Maybank Credit Cards that earn us Treats Points are as good as useless as far as the Treats Points are concerned!
Even for Air Miles, i.e. Enrich Points, KrisFlyer and Asia Miles, with the conversion rate of 12,500 TP =1000 Air Miles, Maybank Credit Card earning you 2X Treats Points from Local Spending is not worth the time!
Taking the same example above, with RM42,500 where we can earn 85K TP, we can only convert to 6,800 Air Miles (1 Air Mile for every RM6.25 spent locally). Well 6800 Enrich Points may allow you to redeem a one-way domestic air ticket which may cost more than the Agoda Voucher worth RM170.
I will tell you this, the Maybank Visa Infinite that earns you 2X Treats Points from Local Spending is only good for the 5X Free Access to Airport Lounges. But you will need to spend RM80K per year to qualify for the RM800 annual fee waiver!!! Seriously, if you can spend RM80K per year, there are other cards that earn you more air miles!!!
On the other hand, if you have lots of overseas spending, the Maybank Visa Infinite will earn you 5X TP which means you earn 1 Air Mile for ever RM2.50 spent overseas, which is not too bad; but if one really has lots of overseas spending, he/she should be holding the UOB Visa Infinite and earn more than 100% more air miles!
But if you really want a card to earn Air Miles from Local Spending, get lah the Maybank Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer American Express® Platinum Credit Card – click here to learn more from my review.
However, when it comes to cash back credit cards, the Maybank 2 Gold/Platinum AMEX (5% cash back on weekends for almost all transactions), Maybank Ikhwan MasterCard (5% cash back for Petrol and Groceries) and Maybank Ikhwan Amex Platinum-i (8% cash back for online) are fantastic!!!
So if you spend less than RM3K per month, I tell you, get Maybank’s Cash Back Credit Cards!
